Denise I assume the report actually relates to the Welcome Hotel at Koetong as in December 1886 the license was transfered from William Osmond to John Mildren. By 1895 is was reported that five hotels were on the road b/w Corryong - Tallangatta. In 1897 we had - Wabba Hotel (Wabba) - Jane Marsden Welcome Hotel (Koetong) - Herman Gereke Koetong Hotel (Koetong) - Louisa Peacock Cambourne Hotel (Koetong) - Honora Shelley Travellers Rest Hotel (Bullioh) - Christina McKay. By 1900 we still had the same 5 hotels, the only change, Helena O'Donuhoe now held the reins at the Koetong Hotel. Since there were 3 hotels at 'Koetong', & not sure of their locations (other then it would be logical to assume Cambourne may have been nearer to, or at present day Shelley) - I am unsure whether the present Koetong Hotel would have been Welcome or Koetong - or either. However - can recommend the food & the lemon squashes........& the pleasant atmosphere. Chris Chris, do you know if this hotel eventually became the Welcome Hotel?
