London Tavern - Cnr Finch and Camp Sts Beechworth Soulby owner Mr S commenced the first regular system of street planting in front of his premises. 205 feet to Camp 132 to Finch. When completed the planting will give the uninitiated a very fair idea of the general effect of the Continental system we have so long and persistently advocated of lining our streets and public thoroughfares with shady trees. Those selected are all English elms. 14 plants 25 feet apart at the edge of the footpath and are surrounded by a small but strong triangular shaped fence 5 feet high. This will protect them in their early career from goats and other sources of danger. 15/- each when planted fenced &c. The Avenue has been christened "Elm Grove'. It is intended to confine Camp St to Elms entirely,.
