Bryan. I spent some time yesterday afternoon trying to find a birth registration for Francis Martell b. 1859 using the Victorian BDM cds that I have and was spectacularly unsuccessful. After I found his death 1921, Essendon, - I did do a search on the Fawkner Memorial Park, Springvale and St. Kilda Cemeteries and came up with zilch. It might be worth putting a message on either the Vic Rootsweb or Melbourne Rootsweb mailing list and asking what cemetery someone might be buried in if they died in Essendon. If you could find where he is buried and what section he is buried in, e.g., Church of England, that will help you in relation to locating his baptism. Another thought is - could his birth have been registered in his mother's name, that is Trimble.
