MessageHi All I have just received this, so thought I would pass it on, just in case Regards Di List Administrator ----- Original Message ----- From: Claire Taylor To: adam_taylor@footscray.vic.edu.au Cc: alandkaye@nex.net.au ; AAston@morgangroup.com.au Sent: Tuesday, August 17, 2004 8:04 PM Subject: FW: You may want to pass this on - it could effect work phones as well Subject: FW: WARNING FROM VIC POLICE Please ensure you read this and pass on This has been confirmed by Telstra: DO NOT push 90# on your home phone. I got a call last night from an individual identifying himself as an AT&T Service technician who was conducting a test on our telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine(9),zero(0), hash (#) and then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and refused. Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which allows them to place long distance telephone calls billed to your home phone number. I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many of the local gaols/prisons. DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE. PLEASE pass this on to your friends. If you have mailing lists and/or newsletters from organisations you are connected with, I encourage you to pass this on. Dear All: This is an old hoax. I received just such a message last year but was suspicious of it. The reference to State Crime Squads seemed odd. I telephoned the Victorian police - there is no Stephen Cooper, and yes it is a hoax. But if you don't believe me, do check it out for yourselves. Telstra should be able to confirm, too, if you have the patience!
