I'm looking for any Culhanes registered pror to 1866, I,m fairly sure that the early days connected to mining over Dargo way was under Beechworth, as when the miners made application for a License to Occupy Land under the 49th Sec of "The Land Act 1869". which is a lease under the Goldfields Residence and Cultivation Act, It had to go through Beechworth first before being sent back to Omeo. The Gippsland Mining District was established by the Governor-in-Council on 17 December 1866 under the provisions of The Mining Statute 1865. This was the seventh and final District to be established. The six original Districts were established in 1858. Crooked River wasn't even named when they were mining there before 1860. So not sure what area they called it. Also (big :-) re living here. Also started writing the book at long last :-) Kerry. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Denise" <denisem@powerup.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-HIGH-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 02, 2004 7:09 PM Subject: Re: [HC] Mining Kerry, have a very small data base here, what are you looking for?
