Denise, is this the book by Dr Kok Hu Jin, "Chinese Graves in the Beechworth Cemetery" which he launched a few weeks ago at the opening of the Chinese Cultural Centre at Beechworth? If so, it is an absolutely wonderful book, but not exactly what Wendy is after! Incidentally,I'm working with Dr Kok on the Chinese graves at Yackandandah. Well to be more precise, Dr Kok is working on the imperfect records that I've sent him... meaning that of the 8 footstones at Yack Cem, he's been able to translate 3 of them (the others are too weathered to be readable). The really sad thing is that none of them tie in with our old cemetery records, which feature only poor (and in some cases disrespectful) English versions of the Chinese mens' names. I hope we can make more progress as we go along.
