    3. Hi Ronda. Thank you for your response; in particular this bit: "23rd February 1903 Johanna Murphy resigns, to be married. Married name Broughan, moves to W.A." This categorically rules out Johanna as being mine. My Johanna Murphy was married to my grandfather, Edward, in Feb 1903. Thanks anyway. Regards Terry M. No 1740) was about 5km Wangaratta side of Beechworth. I have copied all the details I have from the Correspondence file on Johanna Murphy. My 'guess' would be that she isn't the one you are after, but you never know!! She had lovely neat handwriting and appeared to be a very competant teacher - there were no complaints or controversies while she was there teaching. Ronda Black Springs 1899 - 1903 The school must have been closed, as Johanna Murphy applies for a job at State School 1740 Melbourne Road, if the school re-opens. She is teaching at Burramine, and would like to return to the Beechworth area, as her widowed mother lives in Beechworth. 27-11-1899 - The school reopens with Johanna Murphy teaching. 1900 & 1901 Johanna Murphy in charge. The school appears to be running smoothly, with the only correspondence being on routine matters, such as teacher absence due to illness on the occasional day, and clarifying dates of public holidays etc. 27-2-1902 Johanna Murphy asks to be moved to Silver Creek State School, if the school is operating full time. 29th Sept 1902 Eva Dunphy (relieving at Black Springs - Melbourne Rd 1740 from Bright 776) 10th October Eva Dunphy returns to Bright 13th October Johanna Murphy is the teacher 23rd February 1903 Johanna Murphy resigns, to be married. Married name Broughan, moves to W.A. 2nd April 1903 Sarah E. Jones arrives (from Buffalo Creek 2635) ______________________________

    3. Hi Denise. Away from list? No. I read most postings every day. Thanks for the obit. Daniel Carmody was one of my family tree patriarchs. James Murphy was my gf Edward's brother. 3. 16.8.83 direction finding to the Dark River. We would direct special attention to an advertisement appearing in another column wherein Messrs C and C notify that on and after Monday next their coaches will leave Bambrick's Hotel Wodonga daily except Sundays for Cravensville whence travellers to the Dark River will be conveyed to their destination on horseback. The coaches will go by the new track which is a shorter and better road than by way of the Gib, which at present is very bad owing to the late rains and almost impassable. New arrangements have also been made in respect to the coach running between Kiewa and the Snow Ck Junction. - Where was A Welshman in 1883??? He is conspicuous by his absence. - 18.8.83 many columns on the trip to and what the reporter finds at Dark River......Home Sweet Home Reef is situated to the west of the Dark River. The Fortuna adjoins that lease and that of Manton and Nicholls on the north, peach and Webb's new find is on the south and they have cut the reef in two places showing good prospects. .......Onthe south of the Dawn of Day is Webb and Peach's, with another, lease. They are down 15 feet and have met with 3 veins from 3 to 6 inches wide which prospect well. The Mon Ami on the same line, #2 south of the Dawn of Day and #3 north of the Blue Gum has good prospects and has opened up 2 leaders from ten inches to a foot wide. ...The Great Republic is supposed to be on the Break o'Day line and was found by Dawson and Phelps (????Bigelows') If anyone has a interest in this area, this article certainly places the various reefs. It's on the first page of 18th August 83 and in fact IS the front page. Wye is mentioned, as is Wyeville with a population of 50. Here we find Homeward Bound again - property of Burns and Curd. -

    3. Hi Denise, According to BM, she was buried in the "old" cemetery, (Cnr. Camp & Loch Sts.), but enquiries at the cemetery can't give me a location for her in the "new" cemetery. Apparently they were all put up the back without identification. Thanks for your time and effort. Cheers Ray. ----- Original Message ----- From: Denise <denisem@powerup.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-HIGH-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 27, 2004 5:04 PM Subject: Re: [HC] third Cemetery > Hi Ray, finally I've found time to reply - (actually found the various > emails on the subject in my box forgotten about) (sorry) > After finding some two or three references to this cemetery in the OMA over > a period, I asked Judy Douthie if she knew anything.
