They will need a little luck on their side but if determination gets you anywhere then he and his kayaking partner Mark have to have a show for a bronze at least. Heats are on the 19th - only 1 team fom each of 12 countries was allowed to compete. Lachie is, of course, descended from Robert MILNE of the High Country! (No relation as far as I know to the Olympic skiers Malcom and Ross MILNE from Myrtleford)....... Fingers crossed for OZ in the C2 event! Wendy

    1. old court records
    2. Dawn Webb
    3. Hello List folks (and apologies for posting to two lists at once) Advice please.! I am wanting to find court and police records, presumably from Creswick, for sometime in 1865. It seems my gg grandfather committed bigamy and the report of his trial was written up in the Creswick Advertiser that year. As I only got the hint of this Friday night I have had not chance to follow up yet - nor do I know really where to start - hence my question on where and how they may be viewed, obtained.. whatever. The name is James BURROWS. Sometimes with an e. usually not - sometimes has been written as Burroughs?? and Borrows. The James part seems consistent. I know the Creswick paper is available at the SLV (and probably at Ballarat) on microfilm and obviously I will have to take a day or two off work and go and scroll through. That will be in a few weeks I think. I have also attempted to contact the source of the hint, but as yet, nothing. Quite reasonable given the weekend. I tried to find the bigamous marriage on the indexes at AIGS and the best I can come up with is James Burrt marrying Mary Curling 1865 who is the name of the "second wife" mentioned. I will try to go into the records office and see if there is anything to label him further, as I do not have the money to "waste" on ordering over the net and finding I cannot prove it is my James. My gg grandmother Elizabeth had a prem boy that year; he died one day old. I have always suspected it was something to do with husband James that caused that. And James has not been definitely heard of since. There is also mention of a prisoner James Burrows 1867-69; I have been to the PRO for that a couple of months ago, but the records are unable to be opened due to the serious mould etc present which could well be injurious to health if (ever) opened. So that option is out. The court and police records seem the way to go to me - anyone have any ideas? thank you Dawn (Melbourne, Australia)
