    3. Hi Bev We had the Elphinstone Hotel for a few years. It was a popular watering hole for the locals as well as those travelling between Melb. and Bendigo. It was on the triangle between the highway and the tunroff to Chewton/Castlemaine. Some time after we left, the highway was changed and, so far as I know, cut the hotel off. There were only7 the pub, the general store and the railway station in our day. 3. Hi Lady Di, As printed in the Herald Sun, (maybe a few more mistakes). HURT SKIER RESCUED FROM ALPS. An air ambulance landed on Mt Bogong, in Victoria's Alps, yesterday to rescue an injured skier. The Northcote man, 43, who injured his knee about 3pm on Monday, was taken to the Latrobe Regional Hospital at Traralgon in a stable condition. The man's friends had carried him to a hut, where they stayed overnight, before he was flown out. Cheers Ray. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dianne Carroll <highcountryheritage@dodo.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-HIGH-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 30, 2004 6:58 PM Subject: [HC] Newspaper > Hi All, > If anyone has yesterdays Herald Sun newspaper, I am seeking an article about some people who were lost in the High Country and used one of the huts as a refuge. > > Can someone assist > > Regards Di > >

    3. Hi Robert Interesting - so there may be a connection in Ireland (if we ignore the spelling issues!) My lot were James MCCULLOUGH married Mary Ann JOHNSTON with children Bella MCCULLOUGH; Ann MCCULLOUGH, b. 1832 Inch, Down, Ireland, d. 1925 at Yackandandah; James MCCULLOUGH, b. 1834 Inch County Down, d. 31/01/1922 Yackandandah; William John (John) MCCULLOUGH, b. 1842 Ireland, d. 1928 Yackandandah; Elizabeth (Lizzie) MCCULLOUGH, b. 1844 Kilmor County Down Ireland, d. Nov 1921 Spring Creek, Tallangatta The last four immigrated to Australia 1857-1870. The ann is my husband's great great grandmother - she married Arthur Welshman from Downpatrick County Down - having immigrated with her brother for the wedding in 1857. If you can see any connection to your Joseph would be delighted to hear.
