    3. Yes Ronda - I think it is likely - mine had parent of William John , who was called John and Mary ann (nee Priestley had died in 1899. May account for why I was unable to find a marriage record - he probably got married in Qld. I did notice in the nominal roll that a James Alexander McCullough of Queensland was killed in action, but in the awards area it had different parent names - can't remember what - the mother was Isabelle I think. Must ask Densise where we look up Qld marriages. 3. Yack Times May 5 1933 Mrs Alice McGowan (nee Kinchington). The death occurred on Saturday at the Bush Nursing Hospital of Mrs Alice McGowan, wife of Mr R.M. McGowan of Bruarong. The late Mrs McGowan who was 46 years of age was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Charles Kinchington, who were amongst the earliest settlers in the district, had been a sufferer for years which she bore with courage and fortitude. Yet the end came suddenly. The deceased lady possessed a lovable nature, and to know her was to appreciate her. Her demise is keenly regretted by a large circle of friends. No better tribute of manifestation of genuine sympathy with the bereaved family could have been shown than by the large and representative gathering of friends and sympathisers at the ceremony on Monday. She leaves a sorrowing husband and 3 sisters - Mrs. W. Paull, Mrs P.Andrews, and Mrs F.Bechwith (Euroa) and 2 brothers Charles (Bright) George (Dederang) to mourn he loss of a devoted wife and sister. Her last mortal remains were laid to rest in the Yackandandah cemetery on Monday. The burial service was ready by Rev. C.Lavender (Church of England). 3. Hello all, I hope I have the right list. I am having trouble with my GGG Grandfather - James SMITH. I know that he married Ann RAIT 1/1/1842 in Fifeshire. I think they arrived in NZ on the "Thomas Harrison" on 25/10/1842 and their first child Georgina SMITH was born about 1842 family lore says in Nelson NZ, could have been on the voyage out - yet to find any written evidence. They only had one other child, Annie, was born about 1847 in Sydney, NSW (too many to be sure if 1846-48). I have Ann nee RAIT's death - 9/1/1877 in Bright and she is buried in Bright Cemetery with her daughter Annie and a grandchild. Annie married William CONACHER then after his death she married John Thomas BETTLES. Georgina moved to Tarnagulla where she married James Robertson CAITHNESS then they moved to Williamstown. Now my problem is James SMITH. How do I work out which death is his? He is not buried with Ann. Any ideas??? Thank you Regards, Pat

    3. It sure is amazing Ronda. I've had a 'spare' child or two for this family over the years but nothing to connect the parents definitely. I'll have to start again now and look for her birth and marriage etc. Another one goes to W.A.! This could prove interesting because her cousin Jessie - who married Walter Crawford - Walter and children went to W.A. around the turn of the century. I often wondered why they went and have yet to track down their lives, so I bet they crossed with Catherine. And yes, this probably is the Kate you had in the records. Bit by little bit... A new challenge for me and I can hardly wait now until I come home from dinner tonight. You can access the Museum on their website and ask for research- there will be charge. # I have some of the old Ovens and Murray Advertisers during the 1850-1900 but without any dates or other information it too will be a huge field to wander thru.
