Wendy (1). Does Robert's death certificate tell you how many years he spent in the colonies of Australia? (2). Did you search for an obituary/death notice in the papers where Robert's death took place (these often record some history of colonial settlers) (3). His children's obituaries may document when their father arrived (as often happened in this era). Have you also tried PASSENGERS AND CREW, IN AND OUT OF SYDNEY, from SYDNEY NEWSPAPERS, 1833 - 1835 by Nola M Mackay. Also....Joan Reece's COLONIAL SECRETARY's INWARD CORRESPONDENCE INDEX (as often free immigrants turn up in these). Have you eliminated all Robert Milne/s who were convicts? cheers Jenny Fawcett ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wendy" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 07, 2005 6:40 PM Subject: Re: [HC] Unassisted Immigrants 1842-55 - Sydney > Jenny, > > I have searched hard for the arrival of my ggg-grandfather Robert MILNE (or > MILNES) believed to have been around 1832 in Sydney. Jackie, as they were German immigrants, there is a good chance they will figure in paperwork submitted to the Government. .....the State Records Office NSW would be a good place to start. Jenny, I have searched hard for the arrival of my ggg-grandfather Robert MILNE (or MILNES) believed to have been around 1832 in Sydney. Do you have any suggestions for me please? I've tried the books at the library and also the online shipping indexes. Nor can I find any trace of his wife Jessie (or Janet) BRIMMER. I believe Robert may have been an unassisted immigrant but don't know for sure. H did appear to have had some money and was able to acquire some property in NSW before he came to the N/E around 1846. He came originally from Lancashire so may have sailed out of Liverpool. Well you wont get the originals of those Birth Certs until you 'splash' out on a new computer. Did you get the typed up versions I laboriously did for you? Thanks Jenny - the ship and crew are listed - unfortunately no ggg.gm. Jackie -----Original Message----- From: Jenny Fawcett [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, 7 October 2005 4:51 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [HC] Unassisted Immigrants 1842-55 - Sydney Jacki have you tried Mary Ann Warner's site? It is a work in progress....all ships and passenger into Sydney c1855 - 1900's http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/shipdate.htm cheers Jenny
Jacki - I've had a lot of success on these links, including the one Jenny sent thru, for NSW and even VIC. I then follow up on the last link, with the name of the ship, and many times find other information, including the exact date the ship arrived and sometimes even when it departed the country of origin. Cargo, the ports of call sometimes, and if you scan the pages sometimes you can pick up other particulars of the voyage. Sadly it only goes to 1855, but even so it's a wonderful resource just as the others are. BTW the third link covers Melbourne and Geelong and other country ports, even other states. Now that we have the unassisted in Sydney online resources for shipping have grown so much over the past couple of years, we're so lucky. http://www.blaxland.com/ozships/ http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/shipdate.htm http://www.nla.gov.au/ferg/issn/14403897.html Denise
my ggf Haeffner came into Sydney in 1852. The shipping list I have shows his name and many others, however on this site they are not show, - a few are and if I check perhaps they will be cabin passengers. I was hoping to find my 3g.gm Elisabetha Hoehn who allegedly travelled (Unassisted) to Australia with her daughter Schubach and family on the Catteaux Wattel in 1855. No luck I'm afraid. Is there anyone on the list connected with the McCormack family? Particularly the children of Brigid Moran & William McCormack. I have two photos which I think have their son William John in them. He died in Beechworth in 1960. If so, I would like to verify that it is William John. Carolynne (NZ)

Is anyone researching/or a descendent of MAURICE JOSEPH MORTON, born Galway, married 1868 to MARY ANN BOYD, and then again in 1873 to MARY ANN LEWIS? Lived predominently in the Kangaroo Flat region in the 1860's and 1870's. cheers Jenny Fawcett
