Ronda ....that's super.. Another clue to my grandfather - yet to be investigated. We, the cousins, know nothing about him to speak of, only what has been found in the last 6 years and that's little, so thank you so very much for this. This child would like be my uncle Hiram - by then going on two. I shall forward this to my cousin and see if he comes back with any comment on scars etc. So that's where he was, in Sheepstation Ck. He would have been looking after Hiram's 1400 acres I guess - and remember he also had a few of his own - that Price - Walter - Hiram thing in 1905. Wendy is there any indication that he may have came out as a soldier (Redcoat)? These were not usually named on shipping lists. The following list may be helpful as a starting point http:// freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~garter1/index.htm ian payne
Hi Wendy the reference I gave you CSreLand Ref: 2/7928 1163 MILNE Robert 1839 (means Colonial Secretary re land) Colonial Secretary's papers, 1826-56, the major official primary source for Australian history in the first half of the nineteenth century. The index covers requests from individuals for land - leases and purchases - received by the Colonial Secretary's office between 1826 and 1856. These letters were separated out of the main series of incoming correspondence. They can be very important because the applicant often provides background information about themselves that is not available in any other source. Microfilm copies of the Letters received by the Colonial Secretary re Land, 1826-56 are available in both reading rooms. The reference above is the search returns item and reel numbers If you go here http://www.lands.nsw.gov.au/MapsAndPhotos/default.htm you can then search the parish maps to see his land. Hi Jenny, Robert's death certificate says '30 years in Victoria' but his eldest child (Jane) was born in Campbelltown NSW in 1834. All of the children to his first wife were born in NSW. She died in 1847 in Bungonia. I have a lengthy Obit notice from the N/E and death notice (thanks to Denise) which mentions his time spent in NSW but no actual dates. Unfortunately the certificates are of no assistance and the childrens' Obits don't help - maybe because they were all born here. He definitely was not a convict. I've spent hours searching the Colonial Secretary's Correspondence available on the Web and there is reference to land in 1839 but I'm not sure what it was about. I really think I've covered your suggestions - but I'll keep looking. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jenny Fawcett" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 07, 2005 7:04 PM Subject: Re: [HC] Unassisted Immigrants 1842-55 - Sydney > Wendy > (1). Jackie - Is the Cateaux Wattel the ship in question? Did it arrive 9th March 1855 on it's maiden voyage? I am going to the Qld Genealogical Soceity in November so could look it up for you if you want me to. If so could you remind me end of October please? I'm going overseas on Tuesday for 3 weeks, won't be back until 28th Oct. then I have to head into the society as it closes for a couple of months not long after. regards Denise ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 08, 2005 4:41 PM Subject: RE: [HC] Unassisted Immigrants 1842-55 - Sydney > Pam > > Assisted Immigrants who died on voyage > KLING Elisabetha dv 33 > MANN Johan dv 40 > SCHUBACH Heinrich dv 50 > > Cheers > Jackie > > -----Original Message----- > From: Pamela S [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Saturday, 8 October 2005 3:34 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [HC] Unassisted Immigrants 1842-55 - Sydney > > > Jackie > > Page 18 "Greetings from the Land where Milk and Honey flows" > Re 1855 Journey of the Caesar > On the Cateaux Wattel, which sailed to Australia at the same time, three > adults and twenty two children died...... > Our GG gransfather Henrich Scubach was one, > other 2 ? > > Pam > > >

Thanks Denise and Jenny, I'll take your advice "on board". Although I've not sighted the original shipping documentation for the Catteaux Wattel, the Assisted Immigrants are on line and these include my Schubachs. I have from two different sources a notation from the documentation against Heinrich Schubach, that "his mother-in-law, the widow Hoehn, is on board". She would have been 65 and probably came "unassisted". Or perhaps she died on the voyage as did her son-in-law. Haven't been able to find her death in Australia under any of the Hoehn variances. Thanks again Jackie
Hello Paul, Thank you for your reply, I too am catching up on emails, I have just returned from Central Australia after my husband was evacuated out from our other "home" via the Flying Doctor, he then spent a few days in the Port Augusta hospital where they diagnosed kidney stones. We returned home to Melbourne last night, hopefully we will be able to head up the center after he sees a specialist next week. In the meantime thank you for looking up the discs, unfortunately none of these are my Dorothy. Hi everyone, I am interested in hearing from anyone who has an ancestor who served in the Vic Police and was stationed at Greta. Any information surrounding either the station or memberes who served would be great. I have the info contained in books on Greta and Ned Kelly, I am looking further than this. thanks Noeleen
