    1. The O'BRIEN's of Buffalo River (VIC) and Myall Plains (NSW)
    2. Wendy
    3. Hi Everyone, I know Denise is away (and she'd really appreciate this one after all the comments about my O'BRIEN family over the last couple of years) but out of the blue this evening I received a telephone call from the present owner of the property known as Myall Plains (near Berrigan NSW). He was actually responsible for placing a small plaque on the O'BRIEN grave at the local cemetery. A half hour telephone conversation ensued and I have an invitation to visit next time I am in the area. Late in August I visited Berrigan in an effort to find out a little about the O'BRIEN family who had been so elusive for so long and subsequently wrote to the Heritage Society. My letter was passed on to this gentleman, whose family has owned the property since 1925, and who has a full history of the property and surrounding area and settlers. The O'BRIEN's moved to Myall Plains around 1870 (from the Buffalo Heifer Run). They both died in 1907. members of the family owned adjoining land on an adjoining propeorty called Narrow Plains. From what this gentleman said it is pretty obvious that many owners of properties around the area were known to each other or had links from earlier times in NSW history. Interesting stuff. Hope I haven't bored you too much. Cheers, Wendy

    3. Thanks Peter, I will put this snippet of information with the little I already have. I have decided to work on the less difficult Blewetts/Blewitts and come back to the more challenging ones later. Thanks for your input. 3. Ronda, I've just had another look as I'm sure you have too, and see that in 1875 there was another one to a Chinese - Caucasian marriage... at Beechworth, Premetta Lucy Ah YEW, father William Ah YEW and mother Susannah DUKE. 3. Hi Ronda, I don't want to barge in on this thread, but I just happen to have Diann Talbot's book on my desk. I too have been interested in Premetta, as I looked for her birth some years ago and was surprised to find the birth of a second Premetta. Only surprising really because it's such an unusual, and not-at-all Chinese name! The Premetta in Diann's book was born at Harrietville in 1867 and died at German Creek on 9 October 1885, daughter of Ah Hing and Lucy Duke. The second, as you know, was Premetta Alice born Bright in 1895 to Ah Ling and Helena Curry. Strange, wasn't it? And now you have the name in your family! I also think you are right to assume that An GEE should have been transcribed as Ah GEE. And speaking of Chinese graves, Dr Kok Hu Jin has kindly sent me a copy of his latest edition of Vol 3 of his wonderful work "Chinese Cemeteries in Australia", to which I made some small contribution regarding Yackandandah. The Volume covers Chinese graves at Echuca, Avoca, Rutherglen, Yackandandah, Dunolly, Ararat, Vaughan, Pennyweight Flat and Wangaratta. I'm happy to do look-ups if anyone has a query. 3. In December, 1853 a thirteen year old girl was married at Goomalibee Station near Benalla and although the marriage took place after compulsory registration the 'certificate' I have is in reality an early church record from the Kilmore Christ Church. Now on the copy it clearly states that consent to the marriage was given by a Daniel BOYD. Now I can find no familial connection between Daniel BOYD and the bride, Elizabeth LUCKETT. At the time of her marriage Elizabeth was a domestic servant. Now is it possible she was indentured to Daniel BOYD as a servant and that's why he was able to give consent to the marriage. At the time of her marriage Elizabeth's mother was alive and well in Melbourne but her father had died some years prior in London. What do you think? Any thoughts or ideas would be gratefully received. Anne Hanson

It would appear to be more than a co-incidence that two girls with Chinese fathers and European mothers in north east Victoria are both named Premetta. If you have time, and have the book handy, could you please check the dates of Premetta's birth & death from the 'Grave Recollections' book for me please. If this was the case, then he would have the power of authority to give his consent to the marriage. I am sure you will have a wonderful time so enjoy it - and take care. Look forward to talking to you upon your return - and hearing some of the 'goss' along the way. 3. Hope you and hubby have a safe and great trip, will catch up when you get home. Kerry ----- Original Message ----- From: Denise To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, October 09, 2005 6:55 PM Subject: [HC] USA CHAT Hi friends. 1861 OMA is finished, and next month I hope to start on 1862. I'll keep a lookout for names again. Tomorrow night I am shutting down the computer until the end of this month. Neil and I, our daughter and her husband, leave home early Tuesday - USA bound, for the wedding of our son and future d-in-law on Friday in New York. A group of about 20 Australians are flying out over the next few days, or have already gone, the bride and groom leave tomorrow. One of the highlights is that in New York some of the American Crawfords who have come to the surface since I started family history asked if they could attend the wedding in New York so will be arriving from their home states. As our son has met most of them, he was thrilled to think they would come. I look forward to seeing them again. We then go to Washington to stay with a Crawford descendant for 4 nights. The newly marrieds will be driving slowly from New York to DC taking in several Civil War sites - a passion of theirs. Our son has ancestors who fought in the Civil War and the Revolution. See what family history does! Then we go to Las Vegas where we will be for several nights attending yet another wedding - of our son (same one) and our, by then, daughter in law. She wanted Central Park in Autumn, he wanted a quick wedding with Elvis and his songs. They didn't want to argue about the venue so decided to do both. We visit the Grand Canyon and various spots in Nevada and Arizona before arriving home end of October. The newly marrieds leave Las Vegas - each on a Harley D - and will ride thru Nevada, Arizona, Utah, taking two weeks, ending in Texas before flying home from New York. When I get to Washington I will have access to a computer so may drop in and say Hi HIGH (g). Denise -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
