Hi I don't have any problem with where he was born, just describing their marriage certificate. The last two John and Estelle, are taken from Agnes's death certificate. I don't know where they were born. John was 38, and Estelle was 36 when their mother died in 22nd November 1959 age 80 Regards Kerry ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, October 27, 2005 12:45 PM Subject: Re: [HC] George WORCESTER & Eliza (Queenie) COOK Hi Kerry, Thanks so much for that info. Percy Worcester's death was indexed as occuring at Dargo, but his siblings born either side of him at Omeo, so not sure why there would be a problem with it when he married. I can't find Percy & Agnes's last 2 kids on the BDMs. Were they registered in NSW? Jenny -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Thanks for checking Jenny. Holts were also at 422 Queen Street. Also the possibility that James' Bureau may have been a business name change for James Holt. Many thanks Jackie -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, 27 October 2005 11:35 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [HC] Matrimonial Agents early 1900s Hi Jackie, Just checked Sands & MacDougall for 1929 and it has the following for the block in Queen St between Franklin & Therry Sts. No. 442 - McMahon, Mrs. A.B. - lodginghouse No. 438-440 - Mills, Alfred & Sons - fruit merchants - James' Bureau - Matrimonial Agency No. 444 - Slattery, Patrick M. No. 448-454 - Chinese Looks like the place was pretty downmarket by 1929. Perhaps the numbers changed and the bureau at 438-440 took over Holts? Note that the rep for Sands couldn't even get a name or occupation for the Chinese living at 448-454. I guess they may not have spoken English. Would anyone have any further information on Matrimonial Agents - late 1800s/early 1900s. I'm thinking along the lines that it was easier to marry at a Mat. Hi Jenny My info I have on my families connect to WORCESTER'S is Two Kirk sister arrived at the Crooked River diggings. (near Dargo) one sister Mary married Michael Culhane, and the other sister Catherine married Hugh Maguire. Catherine and Hugh's daughter, Agnes Maguire, born 1879 married Percival Worcester at the Catholic church at Dargo in 1906, being the son of Thomas Worcester and Jane Cook, on their certificate it has Percy born at Omeo then crossed out. At the time of their marriage he was farming at Boisdale. Her brother Hugh Maguire and sister Nano were the witnesses. They had seven Worcester children; Charles, Thomas who may have married Veronica McNamara, Mary, Catherine, Agnes, John and Estelle. Percy predeceased Agnes and she passed away at her home 132 Parkers Rd, Parkdale Mordialloc in November 1959 after suffering from MS for many years and is buried in the New Cheltenham cemetery. Sorry List, the previous message was supposed to be for Rhonda. Guess my broken leg has affected my brain too. Glenda
Thanks so much Rhonda. I can't get about much at the moment as I fell down our 2 back steps on grand final day and broke my leg in 3 places! No, I wasn't drunk, everyone asks!! Can mostly only sit and I get really frustrated looking at the untidy house, etc. Still it is only for another couple of weeks and then I can start to walk a little. What I am looking for is death of William Whiteford Hedley, after 1915. He was married to Madelaine (Campbell) and their children Whiteford 1909, Norman 1910, Madeline 1912 and Kathleen 1915 were all born St Helens, according to their marriage certificates. By 1922 they were back in Yackandandah where Madeline and Kathleen attended school, and his widow was remarried in 1926. I am horribly afraid that his death might be 1920/21 so will remain a mystery unless I can find an obitury, for example. I have only found the evidence of the above births recently, which makes me think he may have died in Tasmania, although the family stories said that he died overseas, and my mum always believed he died in South Africa, although she didn't know why he would have been there. Thanks for the offer Rhonda, and please don't make a special trip, as there is no rush. Hello listers, Can anyone help with a burial for Timothy Crowley presumably in Omeo in 1899? I have all the BDMs but am interested in an exact date of death and if he is buried with anyone. TIA Jenny
I'm in the process of sorting out my research files and on my hard drive is a copy of an article first printed in The Genealogist in 1984. The article is 5 pages in length and I would be happy to e-mail it to interested listers as an attachment. If you would like a copy please e-mail me off list. I found it a very interesting and helpful article. Anne
Hi Kerry, So when the birthplace for Percy was crossed out, no other place was noted? Probably just a mistake by the celebrant I guess. If John was 38 and Estelle was 36 that makes quite a gap between them and the older children. Are you interested in any more of the Worcesters or just the Maguire side? I have a bit of info on the Worcester if you're interested. best wishes, Jenny -----Original Message----- From: Kerry <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, 27 Oct 2005 15:40:27 +1000 Subject: Re: [HC] George WORCESTER & Eliza (Queenie) COOK Hi I don't have any problem with where he was born, just describing their marriage certificate.
