Hi Dorothy, I couldn't see the photo, I don't think the list format allows attachments. However, I am aware of Di Carroll and the wonderful work she has done on recording a lot of history of the High Country, including her association with the High Country Huts and rebuilding of them following the last bushfires - I wonder how many of them have survived these latest terrible fires. I did have some of Di's discs, mainly indexes of where to find information, and they were no longer in a format that I could access, so I think I have disposed of those. If you mean something later, one suggestion would be the local library at Bright, they may be able to point you in the right direction. Or perhaps the library at Omeo, I seem to remember that Di and a lot of her family were/are from that area. Also, you might like to apply to join a new group on groups.io - this is the new place that yahoo groups and rootsweb groups are migrating to now that yahoo are closing access to their groups. Send an email to FindingFamiliesAustraliaandBeyond@groups.io asking if you can join. A lot of members were previously with High Country and with NE and Beyond and although we now have broadened our range to include anyone looking for connections from anywhere, we are still largely centred on the NE Victorian goldfields area and families and projects in that area. Hi Anne, The important bit is to make them text searchable - it's so easy to miss place-names etc. hidden amongst all of those lines. :-) On Google Drive - the link from the VAFHO Blog - there are a couple of spreadsheet files that identify the annual publication of lists and where / why the odd ones were missed. -- Regards ... Hi Susie I also have been through the process you outlined below. However, I only have 64 files not 78 so obviously need to go back and have another look. Have just printed out your two lists from the link you posted and will check them against what I have. Many thanks. Anne From: FindingFamiliesAustraliaandBeyond@groups.io <FindingFamiliesAustraliaandBeyond@groups.io> On Behalf Of Susie Zada Sent: Friday, 24 January 2020 1:40 PM To: FindingFamiliesAustraliaandBeyond@groups.io Subject: Re: [FindingFamiliesAustraliaandBeyond] Vic G.G. Issue 64 February 1954 Hi Anne, One of my favourite topics - nurses and midwives. I spent more than six months downloading all the official annual registers for both nurses and midwives from the Government Gazette. I then converted every file so it was text searchable. For example, in my version of the file you provided, a search of Beechworth provided 36 matches, and Stanley 8. There are 78 files in total - if you download all of them including the .pdx file you can do one search across ALL of the files at once. For example, a search of Beechworth produced 250 matches in 56 of the documents. You can't upload the files to this group but you are more than welcome to have the link here so ANYONE can download the files - guidelines on use of the files is on the blog. https://vafho.com/2018/04/18/midwives-and-nurses-a-gift-from-vafho/ You'll also find other useful free files which may be of interest under the RESOURCES menu on the VAFHO website - Railway records, Schools and the Nurses and Midwives. http://www.vafho.org.au/ Enjoy! ---------------- Regards ... Hello, You have been invited by Mary Millar to join the Groups.io group FindingFamiliesAustraliaandBeyond@groups.io. The following message was included by Mary Millar: We are a group recently transferred from Yahoo which is suffering the same situation as Rootsweb. Many of us were subscribed to other Rootsweb lists. Our main area of research is North East Victoria/Gippsland and our members have considerable expertise after many years of research, resulting in web sites/publications etc. As yet we are not a large group but one that definitely wishes to continue using this forum to better our knowledge and assist researchers, with no restriction on areas of genealogical interest. To date we are not sure which Rootsweb lists will be continuing, noting that many are inactive, and would be more than happy to welcome new members to our list. If you have questions about this invitation, send them to FindingFamiliesAustraliaandBeyond+owner@groups.io. To accept the invitation, please reply to this email, or you may click on the following link to Groups.io and accept the invitation there. https://groups.io/g/FindingFamiliesAustraliaandBeyond/invite/7774964702304160191/2439941 If you are not interested, or if aus-vic-high-country@rootsweb.com is not your email address, please ignore this email. Hello Peter,Thanks for letting us know, with the bushfires up here mail has been on the backburner and I did not yet see this Email about the lists. I was planning to create a Alpine shire - high country Facebook group to deal with any genealogy related questions for this area. Once set up I will mail the list with the link in case anyone wants to transfer, I hope you might be interested to join RegardRen Sent from Yahoo7 Mail on Android On Wed., 15 Jan. 2020 at 20:31, aus-vic-high-country-request@rootsweb.com<aus-vic-high-country-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: Send AUS-VIC-HIGH-COUNTRY mailing list submissions to aus-vic-high-country@rootsweb.com To subscribe via email send a message with subject subscribe and body subscribe to aus-vic-high-country-request@rootsweb.com To unsubscribe via email send a message with subject unsubscribe and body unsubscribe to aus-vic-high-country-request@rootsweb.com You can reach the person managing the list at aus-vic-high-country-owner@rootsweb.com When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of AUS-VIC-HIGH-COUNTRY digest..." My name is Peter and I have been the list administrator of this list since it was abandoned. I have no idea when it was abandoned. On 7th January 2020, Rootsweb informed all list admins that they will not be providing any mailing list services after 2nd March 2020, except to keep the archives available (see RW email appended below). In other words, all lists will cease to be. If members want to keep this list active, they will need to host it on a new server. A number of such servers exist, such as groups.io, FaceBook, google groups. I personally do not wish to remain the admin of this list, so one of the members will need to step up as a new administrator if they want to keep this list alive. As a side comment, I think that many of the smaller lists were created on a person's whim in Rootsweb's heyday, and are probably past reviving. I can't remember when the last post to this list was. If there are any questions, please post them to the list, but do it quickly as time is running out quickly. Cheers Peter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Hi Gloria, Had a quick look for you on Trove - Gippsland Times. Only reference I could find was an article on Golden Wedding Anniversary 10/10/1938. The obituary could be in a later issue, not digitized as yet.
