Hi If I may clarify quoting from the book "Maryborough .. A social history". Page 33 says "A new rush broke out at the Alma, or Joyce's diggings as it was originally called in December (1854).... Alfred Joyce referred to them as 'some new diggings taken up on my spring creek". But then on page 36 "Commissioner A J Smith requested a police camp at Joyce's Creek (Alma) in mid January" So maybe they are all the same place - Alma. As an aside, my great grandmother was born & grew up in Adelaide Lead and named one of her daughters, Alma. My understanding is that it was referred to as Joyce's DIGGINGS (being situated in a part of Alfred Joyces holding NORWOOD) but it is a long way from Joyces Creek as such.
