    3. Hi Trevor and all I was interested to see that the Bendigo cemetery link works for someone because although I get to the opening site window, all the links/pics on the left panel, appear not to be working. I reported this to the Cemetery contact months ago and I still have the same problem. Is it just me? Edward Travis THOMAS, son of Henry and Sarah Anne nee SPITTLEHOUSE is buried there. Interment number is 046421. I know that there are others, but will write separately to Julia. 2. You are not alone, Beth, it won't work for me either. Like you I can only get the front page with a x in all the links. 3. Dear Lyn and Beth If I may offer a suggestion - many web sites plant little darlings called Cookies into your Computer when you visit their website. These cookies range in effect from simple identification cookies that can identify you to the specific website and will give the webmaster an indication of who is visiting and how often ranging up to a full on tracking Cookie that will track your every movement on the WWW and report back what sites you have visited and when etc etc, Fortunately the latter are not that common but the shall we say "Visiting" Cookies are and many web sites will not allow you full access or even in some cases access at all unless you allow them to set a Cookie into your PC. Both you and Beth have probably got your security settings either in your Web Browser (probably) or Firewall or Anti Virus Software (or all 3!) set high and your Browser is not allowing the Cookie to be set thus you are not permitted to partake of all the site has to offer. I can only suggest that you drop your Web Browser security settings sufficiently to allow the cookie to be set and you will probably be allowed to enter fully. If you decide to drop your security settings I suggest that you do so for the one off visit and reset back to the higher setting once you have finished. That way your privacy is not compromised any more than necessary and your protection when surfing to other websites is not exposing you to more nasties. For Internet Explorer go to Tools then Internet Options then to Privacy and move the slider control down a notch then try the website again. Keep doing this - dropping down a level each time until you gain entry then as I say - reset back up again immediately after your visit and before you go to another website. I cannot guarantee this is your problem or that my solution will work as there are many causes of Web Page access failure but Security Settings are probably the most frequent cause. The other main cause is incompatibility between the software used to create the Webpage and your Browser type and version. For example if the page is created using Microsoft FrontPage and you are trying to access the website using Netscape then this too will often create access conflicts. In this case there is not much you can do other than to succumb to the Microsoft juggernaut and install the latest version of Internet Explorer as both IE and FrontPage would be amongst the most common Browsers and Page building software around thus are the most compatible. Hope this helps Cheers Ron Phillips Melbourne Vic Researching PHILLIPS and COMERFORD ----- Original Message ----- From: <klaush@iprimus.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 25, 2005 7:18 PM Subject: RE: New Cemetery, Melbourne? / THOMAS & SPITTLEHOUSE. > You are not alone, Beth, it won't work for me either. 3. "many web sites plant little darlings called Cookies into your Computer when you visit their website." Hi Ron, Beth and Lyn :) I've been to the Bendigo Cemetery Trust site, if this is the one you're talking about, and I could view it just fine. I'm using Firefox and my internet settings are set to medium with primary cookies allowed, third party cookie requests are to prompt me for a response. I've been chatting to Paul offline about this site since my post about the site in general. It seems the site itself runs fine, but there's very little information on it. I can attest to that; I just did a search for "BYNON" and got quite a few hits with nothing material contained in the results other than an internment number and a request for $12 per enquiry form!!! Outrageously expensive if you ask me, and not enough details to warrant spending that much money on something that could possibly not even be one of my ancestors! I'm going to email them and see if there are plans to improve their website and also to recommend they either include more information or reduce their price by at least half. It seems to me that in this day and age they could also have this payable online using a credit card or Paypal, especially since there are so many of us living overseas who, like me, are not prepared to pay the $15 fee for an international money order just to get a cheque for $12. Even with the exchange rate being in my favour, that's still $27 for a $12 enquiry!! :( Oooops! that ended up longer than I hoped, sorry! If you're using Internet Explorer and the site isn't working, try Firefox and ensure you have Java installed on your computer. If you're still having problems, email me offlist (or Ron? since he seems to know a lot about computers too) and I'll try and help you with your browser settings! :D Take care, Rob.
