Hi Folks, Heather wrote, . I have visited the Melbourne PRO twice recently (a great place) and read odd school records- they have hoards of Bet Bet records, but where else are school records likely to be found, if they are still in existence, please? My reply: Local historical societies and libraries. For instance, the Avoca Society has good (probably duplicates of the PRO's ) records of attendance at the Mountain Hut School. The Carisbrook Historical Society has the Shelbourne West register, after it had been on my cousin's aunt's wardrobe for 35 years. (The Maldon Historical Society was offered it, but never came to collect it.) Some libraries have copies of early Inspectors' Reports, which list teachers' names and salaries, and other miscellaneous school info, and information collected during Back-To's. Of course, sometimes records, such as old photos, have survived at schools themselves. There are some privacy issues in relation to some of these. Tom
