    1. Re: RE: Immigration on a "Kings Grant"
    2. Hi Les I pricked up my ears when I saw you are indexing papers at Daylesford from the 1860s. If you fal over a Burrows of any spelling, or even Burt, I'd love to know the details. Just to know something exists would be reat. Elizabeth Burrows nee Bossingham apparently had a business in the area in the early years, which failed by the endof 1825 - last birth and death the next day of a baby was early 1855 in Daylesford though they were in court procedings in Creswick. Elizabeth's husband James was tried and found guilty of bigamy late 1865, and the children went to the industrial school and were farmed out separately. I have some newspaper reports, and the reports on the children and the court listing for sentencing. But it would seem there was plenty more, perhaps before 1825 - gg grandfather sems to have been a bit of a lad like the rest of his family (I am being polite here) and indications are there were wife bashings and so on well before 1825, as well as police interest. The police seemed well aware of the situation before the court case came up, according to the newspaper reports I have - from Creswick and Ballarat papers. thank you.. I will appreciate any tidbit.. even an advertizement for Elizabeth's business whatever it may have been. If I just know it exists and is at Daylesford museuum I can o and look it ups. Thank you Dawn - who lives in Melbourne but is visiting my daughter and other family in England for two months. > LesPitt <lespitt@optusnet.com.au> wrote: > > Phil-There were many 'cousin jacks' in Daylesford, give me a name and I > will > look it up in the museum when I go there tomorrow.
