THanks Trevor, good lead. While trawling through the pictures on site I looked up Thomas Foster Chuck a leading photographer in Daylesford, Ballarat, and Melbourne and there is one picture there of the leading lights in mining in Ballarat, all named, though hard to read. Thought I would pass this on. This is on Level 5 of the reading room, under the magnificently restored dome which is worth a trip in to the city for its own sake. (Accessible by lift.) Because of my special interests, I was delighted to see some photographs (ambrotype) on display, taken in 1860/61 of Dunolly and Burnt Creek (Bromley) by Charles Dicker. I enquired at the reference desk re cost of copies. $35 for black and white and $85 for colour reproductions were the figures I was given. I won't be ordering any. Well, I might consider just one! The good news, for those who cannot get into the exhibition, is that you can see the pictures on line. Not as clear as the real thing, but good nevertheless. If you go to the State Library of Victoria's catalogue at http://www.slv.vic.gov.au then click on "Catalogues and Databases" and then click on "Pictures Catalogue" you will be led to a search window. Enter the search term Dicker and you will come to the above mentioned collection, plus a few others of his photographs in the SLV. Click on each thumbnail for a better view of each picture. It is worth reading the full bibliographic description too. To do this, click on "View record for this item". I think they are worth a look because of they portray the town at the time when the municipality was gazetted and land sales of town blocks were under way. Recommended for all with an interest in Dunolly. Hi Mavis I put the Family Tree Maker program CD in the post late Thursday so you should get it soon. It is easy to load and use. I don't bother with sending info to Mormon files any more as it is basically all USA stuff shown. No need to return the CD. A reminder of a great resource was on my Goldfields list yesterday. If you go to the State Library of Victoria's catalogue at http://www.slv.vic.gov.au then click on "Catalogues and Databases" and then click on "Pictures Catalogue" you will be led to a search window. Enter the search term for a town, occupation or name and you will come up with same great early photos which can be used to "flesh out" family if you decide to write up a family history and share with others. Click on each thumbnail for a better view of each picture. It is worth reading the full bibliographic description too. To do this, click on "View record for this item". I'm absolutely flat out and doubt that I'll have time to catch up between now and end of school year. Let's have lunch in January after my Dad has gone back home!
