There are plenty of historians of the labour movement. I'd suggest that you get in touch with Trades Hall, Melbourne. You might quickly find someone with relevant expertise. I have a very damaged photo cut from a newspaper with the above heading. The photo is of at least 12 or more men all bar one of them wearing 3 piece suits . The man second from the left in the back row is my grandfather, but as the article is so badly damaged I have no other information. His name is JAMES RAE and he lived in Ballarat. On the reverse of this scrap it talks about the rules of the Victorian Branch of the United Labourers Union. Perhaps it was a Union conference he attended in Melbourne? Would anyone know about this event, or have a photo of their family member attending as well? Thanks everyone. Margaret
Peter When I first started looking this up I contacted the Labour Party in Sydney and they referred me to Melbourne. Their historian was not able to help me, but offered to place a notice in their magazine, but nothing ever came of it. The December did not agree with the second conference of the party itself. Thanks for your suggestion though. I am open to any ideas.
