There must have been many fatalities with buggys, gigs, and horse riding in those days. Of my great grandparents the pioneer couple who arrived in NZ in 1840; 10 children who were born in NZ 1840 - 1860, there were 3 who died from either being thrown from a buggy, cart, or horse. Imagine today if you lost 3 out of 10 in motor accidents?? Shirley
