    2. Hello Everyone, Sorry I've taken so long to respond to this query. It was the first time in years that I haven't checked my emails daily! The CLIP CD stands for "Crew Lists something something"! It commences in 1863 but I'm not sure about an end date. It has a wealth of information about crew members including previous ships worked on, when & where engaged, sometimes age, place of birth and a host of other things. I know our local group (Narre Warren & District FHG) has it. Stay tuned while I check out further publication details and let the list know. -- best wishes, Jenny

    3. My GG grandfather John Woodruff SYPHERS ended his sea faring life when he "jumped ship" in Sydney town in the 1840s, but which ship and when were the questions to be answered. Then in 1857 John became naturalised! John W. Syphers' Naturalisation certificate of 11 September 1857, states he was a native of the USA, aged 34 years, arrived on the ship "Kelso" in 1848, being a resident of Tumut, NSW and wishing to enjoy the privileges of a British subject! So perhaps this is an alternative if your ancestor arrived before the CLIP CD. Check naturalisation 1834-1903 on the online index at: http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/accessforall/default.htm and their arrival ship should also be recorded. Another alternative is to check Police Warrants "Wanted" records for the period. John's Crew List records (obtained personally at PRO, Kew, London,) gave lots of information, including: " In conformity the Imperial Statute 7 & 8 Vict Capt112, I hereby certify that George Hisse, Richard John Coker, Richard Williams, John Woodroof Syphers and John Morgan have deserted from the ship "Kelso". David Roxburgh, Master, and that a warrant has been taken out for their apprehension. Water Police Office (Sd) H.H. Brown JP Sydney 25 April Water Police Magistrate" Cheers Marg Smith Mardi, NSW ----- Original Message ----- From: <JnnyB@aol.com> To: <AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 04, 2005 9:42 AM Subject: Re: CLIP CD ? > Hello Everyone, > > Sorry I've taken so long to respond to this query.
