Has anyone experience with the system of land records reference numbers please? I am trying to find details relating to the following land Lot 4, Section 6, Windermere( near Ballarat) and have received the following details 284/304 Sold to Augusta E Munro 380/568 Sold to Alex H Greenfield 403/519 Sold to Jesse Strange What I want to find is the date of these sales. ARE THE 6 NUMBERS IN FRONT OF THE NAMES ANY INDICATION OF DATES? I have found in the Ballarat Rate Books that the owner of the lot was James REA from 1874 until 1899-1900. I cannot understand why the Rea/Rae name is not shown with these Sold references. In the rate books it shows the owner after James Rae to be Jesse Strange, Thos. Edgar Strange and Ernest Loftus. Are the rate books available BEFORE 1874? Any idea who owns the land now? Would the deeds have previous owners shown? Any ideas please? Margaret Sydney
