OK .. see what this adds up to: checking the Victorian electoral rolls we find: 1903 - all at WATERLOO subdistrict, Garmpians district: Thomas Macedon MOORE, miner (*** husband) Mary Jane MOORE, home duites. (*** wife) and a little later: 1909 - all at WATERLOO, Beaufort subdistrict, Garmpians district: Thomas Macedon MOORE, miner (*** father) Robert Mitchell MOORE, labourer (*** son) Mary Jane MOORE, home duites. (*** mother) checking the Vic indexes we learn of the birth of Robert Mitchell MOORE: Surname: MOORE Given Names: Robert Mitchell Spouse Surname/Father: Thomas Spouse Gvn Names/Mother: Mary Jane ROBINSON Birth Place: TIMO Year: 1879 Reg Number: 12538 and checking further - the marriage of Thomas to Mary Jane Digger - Pioneer Index. Victoria 1836-1888 Surname: MOORE Given Names: Thomas Macedon Event: M Spouse Surname/Father: ROBINSON Spouse Gvn Names/Mother: Mary Jane Birth Place: MACEDON Year: 1878 Reg Number: 3966 It is worth noting that Timor is very close to Maryborough. Robert MITCHELL passed away at Scoresby North in 1896 aged 65 years . father Richard Mitchell, mother unknown. This appears to be 4 years after the death of his wife Catherine - and suggest that Robert may have been about 3 years younger than his wife... Possibly the Knox Historical society has some records of the Miitchell family in Scoresby North? Here's the details: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~khsinc/contact.html Postal Address: Knox Historical Society Inc. P.O. Box 8124 Ferntree Gully 3156 Email Address: [email protected] They may wish to know the home addresses from the deaths certs for Robert and Catherine?? no luck with the indexes so far ... good luck Robert Judy Thomas wrote: > Yes, all I have is the death certificate for Catherine MITCHELL, as > that is the only official record we have been able to find. > > We can't find a death for Thomas MOORE that's certain, without buying > 3 or 4 certificates. > What we know is that Catherine was born about 1828, in England, but no > idea where, Father Richard BARKER, mother Elizabeth ?. 3. thank you Robert, I didn't have the electoral roll information. Robert Mitchell and Catherine are buried together in Ferntree Gully Cemetery. I was also surprised that Thomas Jnr. would name his oldest son after his stepfather. Hints at a story we'll probably never know. There is no certain candidate for the death of thomas Snr, there are at least three possibles. I think the next step has to be to buy the marriage certificate for the marriage of Thomas MOORE and Mary Jane Robinson, although whether it will give us any additional information is questionable. Thanks everyone, for all suggestions.
