    3. Hi List, It has been suggested that if I tell you all about my problems. sks may be able to assistl Can someone please help with any of the following: Sarah Ann Davis married John Scanlon at The Reefs Presbytery (Catholic) Pleasant Creek, November 7, 1869. Witnesses Edmund O'Grady and Mary McMillan. Sarah was 18 at the time and a servant. She gave her place of birth as Co. Monaghan, Ireland. She required the written permission to marry from her parents, James Davis and Johanna Murphy. Sarah (known as Annie) and John had two sons and six daughters in Stawell. John died in 1891 aged 62 and Annie died1889 aged 36. Both are buried at Stawell along with their eldest daughter Mary Ann and son Thomas. On Sarah's death certificate, it is stated that she had been in the country for 34 years - i.e. arrived at about aged 2. Her father was at the time of her death a Storekeeper. I believe Sarah's parents, James and Johanna, were alive in 1869 and presumably died and are buried in Victoria. There is a Johanna Davis died in 1898 at Ararat. Husband James Davis, married in Melbourne 35 years before, i.e. 1863 - but the four children listed on her death certificate (Robert 8847/1857. James 918/1859,Eliza 20778/1863 and George 25325/1870) do NOT include a Sarah Ann. According to the death certificate, this Johanna was born in a different Irish county but thats possible irrelevant. Is there any connection with the marriage in 1856 of Julia Murphy and James Davis, widower since 1855 with one living and one dead child or is this a red herring? I am trying to track down the deaths of Sarah's parents, James and Johanna Davis and, if possible their immigration to the colony. I would also love to locate John Scanlon's arrival here from Limerick in about 1858. I have scoured the shipping records with no luck. Sorry to be so long winded but I really need some help on this one. regards Sharon From: [email protected]: [email protected]; [email protected]: RE: re Stawell ResearchDate: Fri, 5 Sep 2008 06:38:32 +0000 I can't recommend a researcher for the area, but if you let the list know what you are wanting to find out you will probably be pleasantly surprised by the answers. regards Janet> From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Subject: re Stawell Research> Date: Thu, 4 Sep 2008 21:22:49 +1000> > > Can anyone recommend a researcher who specialises in Stawell/Pleasant Creek research please.> regards> Sharon> > > -------------------------------> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message Play now to win prizes for you and your friends!
