Would SKS please lookup a death for me of an Alfred CARTER b 1867 in Sandhurst? He was married to Eleanor Williamson (widow) nee Shelton. His parents: William and Nanny Carter. Wife Eleanor died 1913 in Kangaroo Flat so possibly his death occurred in the area. Anything that possibly matches his death would be helpful. Thanking you, Mel.
Thankyou for your help Pam, Sue and Ruth, it's really appreciated... Ruth, I'd checked the Bendigo Cemeteries Trust too with no luck making a match too, was hoping a Digger Index record would show up for him stating his wife's name as Eleanor Williamson or Eleanor Shelton but not always simple hey... Pam yes that record is the correct marriage for Alfred, the England as is birthplace possibly comes from the fact that most of his siblings were born in Cornwall. He was the youngest and third born in the Sandhurst area after the family arrived in Victoria. Sue thankyou for the Kilmore death that is one worth following up and wow 110 is a great age hey for the Alfred at Kyneton, a back up lead perhaps if not the Kilmore one... the Eleanor death at Kangaroo Flat is a definite match. I didn't have her parents names so that is some new information! Thanking you all for your time! Kind Regards, Mel
Dear Mel, The only Eleanor death I could see is the Eleanor, died 1913 aged 56 at Kangaroo Flat, parents James SHELTON and Bridget BARNETT. Was she married before? There was an Alfred Carter died 1905 at Kilmore aged 37 which fits with an 1867 birth. His parents are listed as unknown. The Reg. Number: 2153 should you want to get the certificate to see if a wife is listed. The records also have an Alfred Carter died at Kyneton Hospital 1896 aged 110! Pretty impressive if true. From the indexes: we learn that: David John CARTER was born in Kangaroo Flat, in 1895 reg.no.4458 father:Alfred John CARTER and mother Elleanor WILLIAMSON Olive Harriet Gerte CARTER was born in Kangaroo Flat, in 1897 reg.no.11956 father:Alfred John CARTER and mother Ellenor SHELTON Interestingly - the marriage for the couple is registered in 1896 reg.no. 7392 - Ellenor WILLIAMSON born Kanagroo Flat to an Alfred CARTER born England ... Now I wonder - was he born in England or Bendigo??? Mels original post strongly suggests that the information in the post is from indexes only? Could it be that there were two Alfred CARTERS? hmmm ... I would really like to know whether Mel has seen the marriage certificate to clear up the origins of the Alf Carter that married Eleanor Williamson ... anyhow: the indexes show the birth in Sandhurst in 1857 of an Eleanor Shelton, father James and mother Bridgett Barnett. and 20 years later, in 1877, the marriage of Sandhurst born Ellenor Shelton to a Hobart born William WILLIAMSON.. it seems that Elenor and William had a couple of kids at Kangaroo Flat in 1879 and 1884. and the indexes confirm the death of 56 year old Eleanor CARTER in 1913, at Kangaroo Flat, father James Shelton and mother Bridget BARNETT, The indexs show the death of a 62 year old Alfred John CARTER in 1915 - Kangaroo Flat, reg.no. 1799 father: Thomas CARTER and mother Annah TABBOURT - is this our man?? I wonder 62 years of age? - 1915 - born in 1853? hmmm ... TABBOURT - that really isn't a name - so a transcription or translation error?? perhaps a couple of certificates would help?? good luck Robert Mel wrote: > Would SKS please lookup a death for me of an Alfred CARTER b 1867 in > Sandhurst? Hi, the death certificate of Nannie CARTER aged 76 years, Bendigo district, 1903 registration:4671 may help with the search? and there is this death in 1912 in Bendigo of a William CARTER, possibly Alfred's father and Nannie' husband? aged 88 years reg.:13130. I wonder whether this death in 1904 is the missing person or an older brother: John CARTER, dies Bendigo in 1904 aged 49 years father William Vivian CARTER and mother Nannie CARTER - perhaps if we had the names of the siblings we could work it out?? Also - who was the Alfred John/Alfred Thomas CARTER born in Bendigo getting married to a Jessie Margaret SHAW in 1898 - she dies in about 1899 probably as a result of childbirth to son Alfred Roger CARTER born 1899 and dead in 1963...... and there is a chance that this Alfred CARTER remarries an Amelia Eliz LEY .... so there are a few possibilities..... following the children may assist ... what happened to emma Jane CARTER - did she marry a Mr. Ginivan? - where were they? and this CARTER family is Cornish ... nobody without Cornish ancestry names their boys Vivian .... :) good luck Robert Melbourne Mel wrote: > Would SKS please lookup a death for me of an Alfred CARTER b 1867 in > Sandhurst? > > His parents: William and Nanny Carter. >
