Hello all, I am looking for some assistance to locate a picture of a canvas funnel / wind sail / Californian hat / etc. used by miners in the 1800's. Known by these and probably other names, this item could either be 1. shaped like a funnel, one end being placed over a mine shaft and the other end faced into the wind, the wind being directed into the funnel and down into the shaft to give the miners fresh air, or alternatively 2. slung from trees like a boat sail to gather air which would be directed down into the mine shaft. I have tried the obvious sites like Picture Australia, National Archives, etc. and am at a loss to actually find a photo/sketch. Is anyone able to help at all? Many thanks. Jan Shaw.
