>From Australian Bailliere's Gazetteers Victoria 1879 the following: YAN YEAN (Cos. Evelyn and Bourke) is a postal township on the river Plenty. The only mountains are the Dividing range. The only river is the Plenty, which rises in the Dividing range, and falls into the Yarra, a distance of about 30 miles. The district is both agricultural and pastoral. The nearest village is Whittlesea, about 6 miles JT.E. of. Yan Yean, situated on the S. side of the Dividing range. It, as well as Melbourne (19 miles), is reached by coach daily. Yan Yean is under the Whittlesea shire council, and in the electoral district of East Bourke and Evelyn. The population is about 300. Cheers Avril Dalby
