I may be geographically challenged but I always understood that the Jordan Goldfields were in Gippsland around the Walhalla area which is a long way from Kingower! JON I would imagine refers to the JORDAN goldfields - which are in the same region as Kingower - maybe 7 or 8 miles south westish of Kingower away - less as the crow flies?? It is worth noting that the abbreviation JON only appears about 6 times - and in each case it refers to the birth location of a deceased child - about 5 from 1859 and one in 1856. I can't help with any cemetery information - but googling Jordan with Kingower or Dunolly or Wehl or Rheola should help with some of the eraly history of the place ... was the baby buried in JON ??? - hmm - I really don't know - good luck Robert in melbourne juliemhopper wrote: > Greetings all, > > Courtesy of a kind lister, I now have a family record for the birth and > death of an infant whose existence I had not previously known of.
