Good afternoon; Following up on my earlier message regarding the Old Chinese Burial Ground at St Arnaud, I have since found out that this burial ground is in fact the "Mew Bendigo Cemetery" that was in use from 1855-1858. It also seems to have been called St Arnaud Old Cemetery at one time. I believe this small cemetery located on the Sunraysia Highway/Donald Road, St Arnaud Nth has no headstones left but there is a plaque attached to an iron gate in the front of it. The site was reserved on 30/9/1895, VGG; Page: 3408 for the protection of graves. The area for the site being listed as 2 roods. It is believed that a fire destroyed the old cemetery records in the early 1900s. Many of the burials in it were Chinese. If anyone has any further information on this old cemetery, I would appreciate hearing from them.
