Putting a simple wooden cross in place might depend on the cemetery regulations. Some won't allow it, and you have to go for a more permanent memorial. I discovered that my g-g-grandparents were buried in an unmarked grave at Eaglehawk Cemetery. Bendigo Cemetery Trust charge in excess of $600 for a simple brass plate and its concrete footing.
