I am interested in another Castlemaine draper: George Britomart Ryland (abt 1827-1900). He and his wife Christina and son arrived in Victoria in May 1854 on the Guiding Star. There were 6 children, 3 of whom were born in Castlemaine. I have a fair amount of detail about the family, but my chief interest lies in the fact that George Britomart Ryland was the first named executor of the estate of my ggrandfather John Handford HARDY who died 20 June 1870 in Chewton. The son, Frederick John Handford HARDY was left an orphan at the age of about 8-10, and I know nothing more about him until 1886 when he was practising as a dentist in Castlemaine. Somebody must have looked after this little boy. Perhaps there might be some clues from George Britomart Ryland.
