Many thanks to Marita, Robyn, Lyn, Tom, Chris and Rowena! I do have my grandfather's war record - and have read all the naughty things he did - but did not check before contacting the List - otherwise I would have seen that he arrived with his wife on board the 'Bremen' on 25.7.1919 - having left the UK on 4.6.1918 I really want to view the passenger list for the 'Bremen' just to prove that they were actually on board, so that I can now contact the Victoria B.D.M. office and let them know that they have made an error on my mother's birth certificate! On a recent visit to Melbourne, I applied for various death certs which were issued over the counter. However, I was advised that my mother's birth certificate, would be posted to my address in Perth and that it would take a couple of weeks. After three weeks I received a request to furnish a certified copy of her death certificate. Did that, and then some weeks later, received the 'History Certificate'. Despite the Registration number 31136/1919, which I had found on Microfische - it stated that she was born on 20 December 1918 at St. Kilda. Could be - lots of fibs were told by my family on certificates. Her parents, William & Lillian HOLLIDAY were married on 2/11/1918 in Lambeth according to their marriage certificate. Possible to come to Australia in six weeks and arrive in time for a birth in December. However, if they arrived on the 'Bremen' on 25.7.1919 it would seem more likely that her birthday of 20.12.1919 would be correct. Just wanted to get my facts straight before requesting a new certificate. I would still like to see the passenger list for the Bremen. Would be interesting to see who else they came out with. I recall friends who were supposed to have been on the same ship. Thanks everyone. Knew you would set me straight. Cheers!............Judy. Perth W.Australia
Hi all, Judy - you obtained a "History Certificate" - was that one of those fancy commemoravtive certificates? If it was then I suggest that the date of birth was incorrectly transcribed from the original document - and you should seek to obtain either a refund of your fee or a correct certificate. good luck Robert in Melbourne On 21/07/2011 1:56 PM, Judith Acaster wrote: > Many thanks to Marita, Robyn, Lyn, Tom, Chris and Rowena! Hi Robert, Well, it did not look too fancy to me, but it did cost an arm and a leg! I shall contact the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages and endeavor to sort it out. I think I have done enough homework to present a case? Thanks Robert, for joining the discussion..........Judy On 21/07/2011, at 5:34 PM, robert.j wrote: > Hi all, > > Judy - you obtained a "History Certificate" - was that one of those > fancy commemoravtive certificates?
