Thanks to Chris, Shirley and Trevor for their quick responses. I do have the WW1 Military history of my grandfather, William Thomas Edward HOLLIDAY which are wonderful to have, but I am looking for his medical records at Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital during the forties and up to when he died in 1951. They must be archived somewhere, but whether they are accessible is another matter. Still, if I knew where they are located I could make enquiries. When I am in Melbourne next month I might go up to Heidelberg and have a snoop around. There is a chapel and memorial garden which would be interesting to see and you never know once you get talking to people, what they will come up with. Thanks all, Much appreciated, Judy
Judith, You might want to do a bit of research on the Repatriation Hospital. I live within a few km of it, but have not been over that way for some time. I believe the old place is still there but has closed as a hospital. Someone on the list will know more about this than I do, but I have an idea that servicemen and women are now treated elsewhere, maybe at the nearby - and recently rebuilt - Austin & Mercy Hospitals, which share a common site in Heidelberg. I think your best bet would be to first contact the Defence or Federal Health Departments, before you head out to Heidelberg on what could be a fruitless trip to a hospital that no longer exists.
