I wonder if anyone on the list can give some advice regarding a proposed visit to the Bendigo Library? I am wanting to have a look at any resources regarding Axedale/Sweeney's Creek from 1854 till the end of the 19thC.. I hope to be able to use rate books, photos, land maps, directories etc. Some years ago a local winemaker told me that an old newspaper office was on his property and that it contained many old local newspapers. Does anyone know anything about them? Does it vary from day to day as to when such resources are available in the library? I seem to recall that some local history are available on particular days. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Tony O'Grady Melbourne.
Hi Tony, Look at http://www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au/BendigoLibrary/tabid/71/Default.aspx for the Goldfields Research Centre, and http://www.aigs.org.au/bendigo.htm and the http://home.vicnet.net.au/~brgs/ which both hold records in that Centre, under their control on their particular opening times. To increase the efficiency of your visit, I suggest that you also email them first, and ask at least the questions you have posted to this List.
