The book was by John Chandler and was originally published late 19th century but I think it was reprinted as a facsimile edition about 20 years ago. I can't remember the character's name but it was based on the true account of a person who, as a child, came to Victoria in the pre-goldrush era. He grew up to own a bullock team and plied the route from Melbourne to Bendigo during the gold rush. Although the person may not be your relative, you might find it interesting to read of the type of life he led on the roads (or the lack of roads). There were chapters on floods and fires in Melbourne and the country, bush rangers etc. I think there were excerpts from his diary - from memory some of these rambled a bit, but all in all an interesting book. Regards to all, Marg. -----Original Message----- From: ronjeannielister Sent: Tuesday, January 25, 2011 6:20 PM To: 'martin kaiser' ; AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: Carriers to and from Goldfields 1847-1854 Hi Martin and Alycen, Do you know where and in which year he was born and if he was any connection to Jeremiah or Charles Jeremiah Marshall? He lost a bullock train in the great fire of 1851 Thanks, Martin & Alycen Kaiser ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Thanks Chris I have found an online supplier and ordered the book. Frightened after I had started to search at the values of some of my own books, think I should up my insurance, although a lot of my books are not available and I definitely need to improve my index.
