Isn't it strange!! I purchased the Great War Index of Birth Deaths and Marriages which give records of all 3 categories from 1914 to 1920 and the Vic Marriage Index from 1921 - 1942 - both from Vic BDM who now say you can't access anything under 100 years!! What was the point of the Indexes if you can't access the relevant entry? You really have to ask yourself do the Policy Makers know what they are doing?? If we apply the letter of the law then all records now held by many more genies than I are illegal!!! Watch out Genies the knock on the door at 2 am tomorrow morning might be ASIO wanting to send you to the Aussie equivalent of Siberia - that is if the Pollies even know where it is - perhaps the one that does hasn't told the others for fear of breach of Privacy!! What was the point of the Indexes if you can't access > the > relevant entry? > Hi Ron What about the NSW Federation Birth, Deaths & Marriages CD 1889 -1918 published in 1974 Then about 10 years ago the NSW BDM Registry got all up tight about privacy and slapped a 100 year embargo on birth records The Privacy business is quite weird . Had a license renewal come in the mail recently which had some errors. I phoned to rectify it . But was in my husbands name and he was out . They wouldnt talk to me , but a fax or email was out OK . So I sent them an email . Tis a funny old world Bye

The privacy ,imit changed about four or so years ago and was well publicized at the time. It used to be - 80 years birth, 50 marriage, and 10 death. Then, to fall in line with the general policy of the entire country - NSW was quoted - it went to 100, 60 and 30. I THINK! The cds were issued years before the change of privacy provisions but it was acknowledged they could not be recalled. On another note - I wanted a copy of my own son's birth cert. As he was over 18, I could not have it! Isn't all this a load of bulldust and bureaucratic nonsense. Certainly there are identity theft issues and certain privacy issues for the living but not being able to get birth certificate for your own son or someone born in 1913 is ridiculous. It appears I missed the announcement but I still ask the question if the Pollies know what they are doing? It does seem sometimes that the rules in some form or other - change daily!!
