Hi does anyone know of a James Marshall in the Bendigo area from 1847-1854. He is my wife's g g grandfather and was based in Melbourne and operated a bullock train up to the Goldfields. He lost a bullock train in the great fire of 1851 Thanks, Martin & Alycen Kaiser
Hi Martin and Alycen, Do you know where and in which year he was born and if he was any connection to Jeremiah or Charles Jeremiah Marshall? Many thanks, Jeannie. -----Original Message----- From: aus-vic-goldfields-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-vic-goldfields-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of martin kaiser Sent: Tuesday, 25 January 2011 5:55 PM To: AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS@rootsweb.com Subject: Carriers to and from Goldfields 1847-1854 Hi does anyone know of a James Marshall in the Bendigo area from 1847-1854. Dear all, a few years ago I read a book called "Forty Years in the Wilderness", I lent it to someone, forgot who it was and haven't seen it since! I can't remember the character's name but it was based on the true account of a person who, as a child, came to Victoria in the pre-goldrush era. He grew up to own a bullock team and plied the route from Melbourne to Bendigo during the gold rush. Although the person may not be your relative, you might find it interesting to read of the type of life he led on the roads (or the lack of roads). There were chapters on floods and fires in Melbourne and the country, bush rangers etc. I think there were excerpts from his diary - from memory some of these rambled a bit, but all in all an interesting book. Regards to all, Marg. -----Original Message----- From: ronjeannielister Sent: Tuesday, January 25, 2011 6:20 PM To: 'martin kaiser' ; AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: Carriers to and from Goldfields 1847-1854 Hi Martin and Alycen, Do you know where and in which year he was born and if he was any connection to Jeremiah or Charles Jeremiah Marshall?
