Happy New Year to all listers! I hope 2011 is kind to all of us. I thought I’d start the new year with a list of family names I’m interested in in case someone recognises them. All names are from the Bendigo and Eaglehawk areas..... My maternal lines: Meurillion, Franscella, Haw, Hamilton, Naumann/Norman, Gagetti, Monigatti, McMaster My paternal lines: Hooley, McMahon, Hynes, Goyne, Andrew, MacFarlane. I’d love to hear from anyone researching these names. Again, best wishes for good health and good times in 2011, Marg Watson.
Hi List, I have a death cert. from 1853 where the cause of death of the little 25 week old girl is stated as 'dentition'. Can anyone please explain this diagnosis. Thanks Jenny
Dear Marg I was excited to see LOGAN in your subject line. but soon realised that the LOGAN you found in NZ is not connected to the LOGAN family of Logan near St Arnaud. Dear listers, I'm just back from a holiday to New Zealand and amongst the tourist brochures I picked up is one from the Cromwell area on the south island. This area was originally settled as a gold rush. One of the localities listed in the brochure is Bendigo. The information given is that "Thomas Logan, an alluvial gold miner, discovered a clearly defined reef in 1863." >From 1869 over half a million pounds of gold was extracted from the reefs. There is no mention of where Thomas Logan came from, but I assume he was from Bendigo, Victoria. I'm therefore posting this on the mailing list in case someone is missing a family member called Thomas Logan. It might be worth chasing him up in the New Zealand records. I have no further information other that what I've typed here and don't know for sure that Thomas came from Victoria, but if he chose to name his reef "Bendigo" you would expect he came from there. Best wishes to all for a happy and safe Christmas, Marg.
