Dear Listers, I am looking for the decedents of Charles McNulty last known to be in Melbourne in the early 1970's I am trying to find what happened to a Charles McNulty b Belfast 1933, and are there any descendents around. His details have not turned up on the Ryerson Index Charles McNulty arrived from Belfast 18yrs and single in 1952 as a Conductor for the Victorian Government on the Trams/Busses, he had contact with his Mother in Belfast till she died in 1956, I am asking on behalf of his only remaining Sister Margaret Mary in California USA and two nieces, 1 Chicago in USA and 1 in Shropshire UK. I am aware that there are McNulty's in the Goldfields area, hoping that they could be decedents of Charles McNulty or know of some. Hello... I have two William HOOPERs who may be the same man. I'd like to know whether anyone else is researching him/them and can help me to solve the puzzle. Wm A was the son of Ann George and Wm Hooper, born c. 1839 in Perranzabuloe, Cornwall. He's not on the census after 1851: he might have died, but he could be one of the Wm Hoopers who came to Victoria in the goldrush. An unassisted, solitary, arrival in 1855 could be him on the basis of age; others are excluded because they came as family groups. No definite death for this man in Victoria. Wm B had children with Mary Jane PRYOR in the Castlemaine area from 1860-81; unless there's a transcription error, they were married in 1869. The most likely death is 1897, Fryers Creek, aged 65, parents unknown. There's no naming pattern to suggest that his parents were called Ann and Wm, but as there's none for her parents either they presumably weren't inclined to that way of naming children... so it proves nothing. Wm B and Mary Jane had a daughter who married the son of Thomas Barnes, inventor and manufacturer of Castelmaine Rock. Here's hoping.... Phoebe

Unfortunately there are a lot of Geelong records missing. Do you know what religion they might have been because 1850 will be a church record, it was before official registration came in. Dianne Hughes
Hello Fellow Goldfields Listservers. Some of you have received replies to your Bendigo and district queries from me in the last 6 months. I thought it might be worthwhile to provide you all with details about the Bendigo Regional Archives Centre (BRAC), which first opened to Researchers in April 2009. BRAC was jointly established by the City of Greater Bendigo, the Goldfields Library Corporation, and Public Record Office Victoria (PROV). We aim to preserve local records in their place of origin and provide a first-class service to Researchers in person. While some assistance online and by phone is also available, the onus is on Researchers to visit BRAC and use the original records themselves with guidance from staff. We are located within the Bendigo Library, North Central Victoria, where there is a significant collection of secondary resources available. www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au<http://www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au> BRAC is open to Researchers on Wednesday and Thursday 1-5 pm. Records are accessed onsite. Currently available are the Rates and Minute Books created by the former Councils of Sandhurst/Bendigo, Eaglehawk, Huntly, Marong, Strathfieldsaye, McIvor, Heathcote and Raywood. We also have an extensive collection of Sandhurst/Bendigo Council's Inwards Correspondence covering 1856-1899. Details about most of these series are available in BRAC Guide 4, on our website www.brac.vic.gov.au<http://www.brac.vic.gov.au> . BRAC Guide 3 details the types of information you will find in any Rate Book, but also elaborates upon the quirks specific to different series of our Rate Books eg. the Bendigo Rate Books are the only ones which contain an extra column from 1910, which shows exactly how many people were living in each house. New records are being processed and added all the time. We may also have other records that can be used to find those elusive relations. Please feel free to send your initial query to brac@ncgrl.vic.gov.au<mailto:brac@ncgrl.vic.gov.au> We look forward to meeting you in person. Regards, Michele Matthews, Archives Officer, Bendigo Regional Archives Centre, PO BOX 887, BENDIGO 3552, 03 5449 2700, www.brac.vic.gov.au<http://www.brac.vic.gov.au> michelem@ncgrl.vic.gov.au<mailto:michelem@ncgrl.vic.gov.au>

Hello Tom, I've looked on the Pioneers BDM and nothing comes up searching either surname. Ditto for the Hatches Matches and Dispatches for Ballarat and surrounding area. Might John and Isabella have came to Australia together? Hi Folks, I've reached another exciting point in the researching of the movements of my Cuthbertson family. My great great grandmother Janet Cuthbertson arrived in Port Phillip in December 1854 with her brother James. I've now discovered through the purchase of the birth certificate of Robert Cuthbertson, born 1855 in Dead Horse Gully, Ballarat, that his father John, brother of Janet and James, had married Isabella Anderson, 32, born Paisley, Refrewshire, in Geelong in September 1850. How do I find the entry for a marriage in Geelong as early as that? I haven't been able to find anything online. Best regards, Tom
Thanks all for your help I got it on Amazon from a source in Bendigo it arrived here Thursday with the total cost of $21 including postage. The only problem is that I had so many other things that I should have been doing but reading the book has now taken precedence, but I guess the jobs will still be there when I finish. I can't remember the character's name but it was based on the true account of a person who, as a child, came to Victoria in the pre-goldrush era. He grew up to own a bullock team and plied the route from Melbourne to Bendigo during the gold rush. Although the person may not be your relative, you might find it interesting to read of the type of life he led on the roads (or the lack of roads). There were chapters on floods and fires in Melbourne and the country, bush rangers etc. I think there were excerpts from his diary - from memory some of these rambled a bit, but all in all an interesting book.
