    3. I am looking for information on Edward Topliss married Anne Walsh in Back Creek in 1859. Edward Topliss b 1831 on Isle of Man, d 1899 aged 67 at St Andrews. Anne Walsh b abt 1833-1835 Kings County, Ireland, d Edward Topliss signed the Bendigo Miners Petition 1853, travelled to Port Adelaide on Pestonjee Bomanjee, 1851 - listed as TApliss. According to Birth Entry for Henry William Topliss (1872 - Carrapooe West) his parents Edward and Anne were living in Stuart Mill in 1872 and earlier. Edward is listed as a Sawyer at Stuart Mill. Anne was illiterate, so spelling of her name may vary. I haven't been able to find their Marriage Registry. Any links of information would be appreciated.

    3. Hi again, Catherine Edwards married James Allen in 1870. Did they have any children? I think this is her second marriage. On her certificate will it have her maiden name on it instead of Edwards? Thank you for all your help. Cheers, Carol, S.A.

    3. Hi list members, I'm looking for help in my family genealogy research. I have located my migrating ancestor from England (Richard John Whittle), and have his birth certificate (1842). I have him in the 1851 and 1861 censuses in England. In the latter his name was misspelled as Wittle. I have his marriage certificate in Christchurch, Ballerat(16/06/1869) to Anne Harvey, and the birth certificate of his first child in Duck Ponds Euroa 1872. He emigrated to New Zealand ~ 1873 (on the SS Tararua according to family oral history, but I can't confirm that ). I have tried looking on various convict lists but haven't found him. He was a 19 y.o. gamekeeper in 1861 so I'm guessing couldn't afford to pay for his passage. He was working on a large estate (Studlands > 40 employees and I wondered if his employer might have sponsored him?? What I would like help to find out: • When and how did he leave England . - did he go directly to Australia or via perhaps USA? and why?? • What did he do in Victoria? His occupation on his marriage certificate was 'Groom'. • Any other information that would "bring him to life" • Any information on his wife - marriage, birth(of child) and death certificates give 3 different places of birth and two different spellings of her surname! I have been unable to trace her at all. I would be grateful for any suggestions . Thanks Denis Whittle

    3. Well Carole here is the birth, which I think you already have REGAN Margaret born Father: James Mother: Bridget CONSIDINE Birth Place: SANDHURST Year: 1857 Reg Number: 7676 Sandhurst is present day Bendigo. And then this REGAN Margaret Died Father: James Mother: Bridget Age: 18M Birth Place: BEN Year: 1856 Reg Number: 3055 Note it is the probably the same person - same birthplace. You will need to buy the death cert to find out where she died, and of what, etc. I note that the years go in the wrong order - that she died before she was born according to this. I cannot explain that except to say the event year is the year in which it was registered NOT the year in which it took place - though sometimes they are cross referenced. I checked for other possible deaths, births etc but nothing fitted apart from this combination. On the face of it I would suggest she was 18 months old when she died 1856 and that later they found they had not registered the birth - and did so, about three years late! However, all may be revealed if you buy the certificate(s).
