    3. Hello to the list. I was wondering is anyone can give me any information on a Patrick Delaney and his wife Annie Linehan. They seem to have had 4 children at Bendigo in the 1890's. I have all of their childrens birth years so do not need BDM's just something on the actual people. Where did Patrick work etc. Any help is greatly appreciated. Regards Judy

    3. Hi Folks, Cheryl wrote: Would Mount Cameron, Eglinton have been a mining area? My reply: I've looked in my Municipal directories for 1916 and 1957 and Eglinton Parish was totally in the Talbot Shire, but there's no reference to Mount Cameron, which is more of a landmark and a locality than a settlement. (By the way the 1957 directory suggests that Red Lion - on the Talbot to Dunach Road - was formerly known as Eglinton, but when I did some research on this some years ago, the local (Craigie) resident historians said they had hardly heard of it). You could try the Talbot Museum for info on local mining, at http://www.ballarat.com/talbot/talbot_museum.htm There was certainly deep lead mining under the basalt further south, and early mining at nearby Mt Greenock, but I don't know about Mt. Cameron. In relation to the general area, there have been quite a few postings to the List over the years, particularly in 2004 when we were doing out Small Towns Project. You can search the List archives at http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/?list=AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS, but don't blame me if you get in there and can't find the motivation to come out again! :-) Tom

My GGG Grandmother was a "hut keeper" and a "shepherd's wife" so I assume shepherds were housed in huts throughout the property to tender the sheep, and in this case, the wife "kept" or looked after the hut. 3. Thank you to all who offered advice on the whereabout of Mount Cameron, Eglinton. Would Mount Cameron have been a mining area? On Elizabeth's birth certificate in 1870 Jabez Willett, g grandfather, lists his occupation as a drover but two years earlier he was a miner in Majorca, prior to that the family was in Amherst where the first two children were born 1863 and 65 when he was also listed as a drover. He married in Talbot in 1862. It seems he was moving around the mining areas and I wondered if he may have been mining as well as droving. Regards Cheryl

    3. in haste. Eglinton is the name of the Parish, but no-one seems to be able to remember why. If you look at the Parish map you can see where the intention was for a town along the, from memory, Craigie to Mt Dunach Road, which also has a branch to Mt Cameron. 3. Hi Rick,You wanted infomation on Harold and Mary Ann Watts. Harold was my g g grandfather on my father's side. They had eight children 6 boys and 2 girls but none of then named Elizabeth, The girls names were Emma and Blanche. Not unless they used Elizabeth as a kind of nick name. Here's what I have so far: Harold and Mary Ann and three children, Harold, Conrad and Walter immigrated to Victoria, Australia on the ship Mount Stuart Elphinstone. They came out as unassisted immigration to Victotria. Apprently his occupation was a tanner, Harold Died 19th July, 1870 Pall Mall, Bendigo Australia Aged 42. He was killed in a mining accident. Mary Ann died 3rd October,. 1868 at Inglewood. Vic. Aust. Harold also married Eleanor Henrietta MITCHELL in 1870 at Sandhurst, VIC AUST. I couldn't find any children for this couple although he died that year. I hope this information will help you. I can be of any more help please let me know. 3. Hi Folks Sorry for the late coming in on this - been on a all too short holiday and just got back to catch up on mail and I noticed this one from Helen so I though I would chuck in my 2 cents. Sorry Suzie you are not quite correct - When copying a Photo from a Photo be it a conventional silver haloid or digital image you must first make what is called an InterNeg. In other words you simply take a picture of the photo on film as you would a picture of the kids or family dog but under much more controlled circumstances. Its not just a case of grabbing a camera and taking a photo. In most cases the average Weekend snapper does not have a decent enough camera, equipment or expertise to do this specialised task. You need special Close Up lenses and filters to maximise detail and clarity of the final negative which is then used to produce the final Photo. Setting aside the issue of the camera and expertise etc the final quality is also directly effected by the size of the IntegNeg so the Chemist is quite correct because most commercial photo processors only use 35mm film stock and indeed the maximum recommended final print size from 35mm is 8x10 inches and before anyone jumps up and shouts "but I have a bigger one" yes you can indeed produce bigger prints from 35mm BUT the quality does start to fall off. The better the camera and photographer the larger you can go before the drop in quality becomes noticeable. The 8x10 size is recommended because that is all the AVERAGE camera and weekend snapper can produce. Now addressing Helen's problem - yes you can go larger in the final print Helen in fact up to 16x20 Inches or even bigger BUT you will need to seek out a Professional Photo Lab NOT your local Chemist or even a Camera Shop although they may know of a Pro Lab. The Professional Lab will shoot the InterNeg on 600x600mm film stock which is near 4-5 times bigger than 35mm film stock. Its all to do with enlargement. To get 8x10 from 35mm film you will need to enlarge the negative image about 15 times and that enlarges all the flaws 15 times as well. To get an 8x10 from 600x600mm film stock you only need to enlarge the negative about 5 times so all the flaws are only enlarged 5 times as well thus you can get a far superior final image. Now it follows that if you are prepared to put up with a quality drop of 15 times (equal to an 8x10 from 35mm film) then clearly you can enlarge the image much much more! A 15 times enlargement from a 600x600 negative will produce something we call poster size which is about 40 inches by 80 inches but you will have to stand back a bit to view it clearly because at that size the image will be full of flaws. I suggest you get your Yellow Pages and look under Professional Photo Labs but be warned - it will cost dollars! This process is not cheap nor are the Photo Labs! If you are in Melbourne I can suggest a couple that may still do it but if you are interstate I'm afraid its the Yellow Pages. Hope this helps - belatedly. 3. Hi Janis, I think you may be a bit confused with the immigration lists - from the references you've given you want to look at Unassisted Immigrants in which case there won't be Nominal and Disposal lists, just passenger lists with minimal information. The most you'll get that isn't on the index will be nationality (English, Irish etc.) and an occupation - unlikely to help you decide if it's the right John O'NEILL unless he had an extraordinary occupation. They are all microfiche references and these fiche are available at major libraries and genie centres across Australia. You don't say where in WA you live (I'm presuming you're in WA by your email address) but it's worth checking your nearest potential centre to see if they have these fiche. If you're too far away from such a centre then you're limiting your options asking for someone to go to the PROV - as I said the fiche are available all over the place. Hope that helps, regards ........... 3. Hi list I am researching the Willett family. Yesterday I received a birth certificate after a very long search - the reason I couldn't find it was Willett was spelt with a single t and mother's name down as McPeel instead of McNeil and Jabez the father is said to have come from Berkshire not Buckinghamshire - the registrar must have been having a bad day! Elizabeth Willett was born 7 June 1870 at Mount Cameron, Eglinton - I am wondering if there was an Eglinton in Victoria? I have found a Mount Cameron near Amherst. Her father Jabez was the informant and gives his address as Ballaarat - the birth was not registered until 3 months later in September 1870. I know he had a brother in Eglinton in NSW and wonder if Elizabeth could have been born there - maybe the family was visiting at the time? If this was the case should not her birth have been recorded in NSW? Thanks for your help.
