Hi Wesley! I too have Fisher in my research tree. But I don’t see any link with yours but you never know. My Seth Fisher (b. c1839) arrived Adelaide in ship Marshall Burnett 1853. Married Sarah Connolly 1857 in Adelaide. Their Children Seth, William and John, born in Adelaide, then Albert born when they moved to Melbourne c.1877. I am still searching in this tree. Regards…. Richard Wesley said- I looking for anyone that has any information on the descendants of the Fisher family. Joseph Fisher married Elizabeth Booth in Manchester in 1831 and arrived in South Australia around 1840. Their children were Culbert, Sarah, Isaac, Ann, Mary, James and Maria; born between 1831 and 1843. The arrived in the goldfields around 1855 from South Australia. I'm a descendant of James Fisher but I have very little information on the other side of the family. I would like to hear from anyone researching them. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Hi All, does anyone have any information regarding a Methodist Mission/orphanage/home in Melbourne around 1919? If so, how do I find the records. Thank you Jeanette
Hi Lisa, I couldn't find Pierce's death to 1985 in Victoria. Nor could I find a 2nd marriage to 1920 in Vic. I looked in NSW births to 1918 to see if Pierce & Edith has any more children in NSW and I couldn't find any. Pierce's birth was registered as 'Pearce' and his mother's maiden name was Reed/Reid. In preparing a history of her Majesty's Theatre, I am interested in finding out more about George Francis Coates, who managed the theatre 1916 - 1923. He appears to have managed a touring theatre company which appeared at the Theatre earlier that year, 1916. I would like to ascertain whether or not he is the George Francis Coates born in Bendigo in 1879, son of Frankland Coates and Hannah Hynes. I would be grateful if anyone researching this family could get in touch with me. Peter, You might be interested in this entry in Edwin Peters' diary for the 20th April 1857, when he was on the Poverty: " .... A new paper, printed at Donolly [sic] came out for the [first] time on Saturday last. It is under the title of the Donolly Telegraph" Trevor | There is a useful publication on the Internet about the early Central | Victoria Goldfields newspapers at: | | http://www.csu.edu.au/research/jcentre/reports/report198.pdf | | There is a list by town which is very convenient plus a useful map. | | Be warned, old newspapers are a great resource but can lead to square | eyes from endless staring at microfilm in libraries! |

Lois and Peter - here is a sample of the advertisement I was referring to, taken from my research notes: "It seems as though James Christopher was not only a chemist, but also a Mine Manager when he was in Tarnagulla. The following advertisement, which appeared in the 'Tarnagulla and Llanelly Courier' of 8th April 1871, page 2, is a sample of similar advertisements from the period. "South Sandstone Gold Mining Com- pany (registered), Sandstone. Notice is hereby given, that the Direc- tors will declare forfeited the Shares in the names of the following: John Pierce, Thomas Grisold, A. B. Clay, John Walters, Robert Rumsey, and John Blair, unless they pay the 3rd call into the Union Bank of Australia at Tarnagulla before noon of Wednesday, the 12th April 1871. By order of the Directors JAS. CHRISTOPHER Manager Sandstone, 3rd April 1871 Similar notices over the next 4 or 5 issues refer to further calls being made." You will see from the very last line of the advertisement above, that Sandstone seems to be a locality in the Tarnagulla area. Trevor
