Good find Theresa There is a searchable database for this cemetery although no sign of Isaac but that may just mean there is no headstone. Also he does not seem to be registered in SA. Maybe because she was so distraught the registration did not happen. Imagine taking a body so far in a dray with all those children!! Hard to imagine really. Hi Josephine I have no connection to this family but was fascinated by the name EAT, so I googled it and I am curious to know if his wife may have waited to register his death back in Yankalilla, SA where she returned his body and where he is buried according to "Blackburn and Pearce Genealogy" website: http://au.geocities.com/twin_mum_too/index.html) "...EAT, Isaac The details around Isaac's death are interesting, though rather patchy in detail. A resident of Yankalilla in South Australia, he took his wife and family to the goldfield of Victoria. Quite a feat in itself - he had 12 children, although at least one of them was married by then, most would have still been only young. While in Bendigo, he died and his grief stricken wife Eliza (who was heavily pregnant) gathered up the family and with two bullock teams returned with Isaac's body to Yankalilla, where he was buried..." Hope it's OK to butt in like this...! Dear list, I think its about time I had another look for my ancestors. William Barton Farr mined at Brown's Diggings, Durham Lead, Sebasterpol, Italian Gully and then around Maryborough in Alma, Timor and Maryborough. I am particularly interested if there are school records of Timor or Alma in the 1870s and 1880s, as Farr and his wife had children during that time. My grandfather Peter Harle married Farr's daughter Elizabeth in 1883. He was 48 and she was 18, and we have no records of his mining activities prior to his marriage. His address was Homebush at the time. Hello, My interests are in the married names of my O'Halloran girls who arrived in Bendigo around the 1860's Alice Halloran/O'Halloran married Cornelius O'Connor Meagher 1885 Kate O'Halloran married William Patrick Bennett 1873 children all born in Rochester. Timothy O'Halloran married Ellen Bren 1879 Sarah O'Halloran married William Michels 1876 children born Sandhurst. Mary Ann O'Halloran married James Small 1871 children born Elmore and Rochester. Many thanks, Anita
On 3rd June 1860, Arabella Peters married John Smith in the Ballan Schoolroom. Permission for her marriage was given by a JP, her parents William & Mary Ann PETERS (PICKFORD), were not mentioned. Both her parents were emancipated convicts, who appear to have followed the gold from Bathurst to Ballan. I am very anxious to find their deaths . Lynne
Susan, you are such a great help. Thank you and everyone else who responded. Yes I was looking for Margaret Cusack/Cusick who married James Rae/Rea in Ballarat 1870(R/C) She died 8.11.1891 and was buried 10.11.1891 at Ballarat New Cemetery Sec 5 Loc 12 alone..Have not found where her husband James Rae is buried, although her funeral notice said "the remains of his beloved Wife to THEIR last resting place, Ballarat New Cemetery"So it appears his intentions were to be buried with her. .As I live in Sydney have not seen a death notice for her.. My grandmother Emma Pennell Dalziel married twice. The first to Robert Reed, the second to James Edward Rae. She had 13 children, but I have only found 12.I vaguely remember her saying she was a twin, and that one of her children( a twin) died. Think it was to the first marriage, but have not been able to confirm that.Believe the Reed children would have been buried at Ballarat. William John Ballarat 1963 Robert Leslie 21.3.1899 Queen St Ballarat Ernest Arthur 27.11.1898 George St Ballarat Robert George 26.5.1902 Pitfield Plains( believe this is reg. dist for Windermere?) Francis John "Rese"??? 1983 None of the death or funeral notices for these children have been sighted. Need a trip to Victoria one day. It is wonderful having people "on the ground" able to give guidance and assistance. It is greatly appreciated. Margaret
Wow! Thanks for all your replies! Answering some suggestions and queries - Isaac EAT was born in Eng. to Edward EAT & Elizabeth and came to Adelaide in 1847 with his wife Lucy (CAVE) and family. I have a very extensive information database on this family. I do not believe there would be a Chinese connection to the name in this case because of the info I have on the Eng connections. Must admit I was really amazed to find some chinese immigrants with the name EAT ! Yes, I did know about EET, but not of our tree - just another way to spell the name which is also spelt EATS EATES EATT EATTS by various branches of the descendants of Isaac & Lucy EAT. I am sure EAT is how he and his wife would have spelt their name in any reports or registrations of death, but one never knows. So the mystery continues !! Josephine Eatts
Josephine There is no inquest for Isaac Eat and they go back to 1840. Have you come across any variants for the name Eat. Or do you know Isaac's parents names.
