    3. Thanks for that Rade Yes, I was aware of one Josiah/Jacob EEET who SA died 1898, but did not know when he had come to Australia. I haven't been able to establish any connection with our family although the use of Josiah/Jacob would seem to fit in with the biblican name theme e.g. Isaac, who also had a brother named David and a son named Jacob. In the IGI index there are more derivations of the name - mostly appearing in the 1600's - names such as EETTE, EATTE, EATTA, EEET. At this stage my research goes back to an EAT marriage in 1740, but during the 1700-1800's there was also a lot of use of the name EATE. I have also discovered a bishop in the 6th Century named EATA. I do find these derivations so interesting and so frustrating !! My own family name (Fricker) has 23 derivations that I know of!! Thanks for your interest Josephine Eatts

I remember seeing Josiah/Jacob's shipping arrival in SA with this spelling and could not believe it, so I checked deaths and there he possibly was with same surname spelling. WHITLOCK Chris and Ann (nee Coad) from Devon and Cornwall arrive aboard the "Suffolk" in 1869 settled at Brokenback between Maldon and Baringhup MORRIS Philip and Maria nee WILLIAMS from Wales. Philip probably arrived on the "Queen of the East" in 1854 and Maria arrived on the "Thames" in 1855. They settled in Forest Creek before moving to Baringhup.     3. My interests in the Ballarat/Clunes area are intertwined: Pheobe White Watson m Arthur Pickford 1915 Clunes Children Queenie Constance (still living in Clunes) and Horace David. Arthur Pickford was Lord Mayor of Ballarat and licensee of a hotel in Ballarat, I think it was named the "Town Hall". Would love more details on Arthur. He created the Mosaic House on Lake Wendouree and all proceeds went to the Salvation Army after admiring their sterling job with the soldiers in WW1. Annie Eliza Watson m Gilbert Lovitt 1891 Ararat, Gilbert was a policeman in Beaufort, Ararat and Ballarat. Children Evelyn, Eric, Gilbert & Roy. Jenny..Kyneton..Vic.

Children of the following: Daniel Hickey and Margaret (nee) Dawes Daniel was a Tailor, with premises in Hargreaves St., Bendigo Circa 1900's His son Daniel married Mary Ryan (nee Dwyer) lived variously at Hay, Echuca and Bendigo Died 1923 and is buried at Whitehills. Thomas Purtell and wife Mary (nee Kenneally and other variants) had arrived in Australia in 1852 with Catherine, mother of Thomas and a number of other children. All from Shanagolden area of Co. Limerick, Ireland. Settled in Bendigo mid to late 1850's. John Quinn, Coach Driver. His daughter married widower Daniel Hickey around 1900, they had no children. Am interested in other Quinns. Jeremiah Ryan married Alice Dwyer in Sydney mid around 1840's. they lived variously in Castlemaine (Golden Point), Bendigo, Echuca. Jeremiah had a brother Timothy who may have lived around Malmsbury or Kyneton. John Dawes, brother of Margaret believed to have married in Bendigo, not much else known. Daniel Hickey junior had a number of children including my father William Thomas. all I have been able to trace except for Mary Agnes who may have married a Widdup. where or when not known. The only Asylum reference I have found is from a friend who said the Button Index mentions " some asylums", no details unfortunately.Cannot access the Button Index here. Thanks Margaret

Patrick Lyons was from Fermoy, Cork and Bridget Dwyer from Grange/Grangelough area Tipperary, Ireland Bridget Dwyer's mother was a Shanahan and there seems to be other Shanahans in the Ballan area. Bridgets brother John Dwyer married Mary Collins 1862 Ballan. Bridgets sister Catherrine Dwyer married Patrick McGrath 1863 My great grandparents Patrick William Lyons and Bridget (Dwyer) Lyons lived around Cantwells Creek, Ballan from 1872 onwards.
