Hi, Hoping someone can help me. I have just got news that one of my Uncles in Ballarat has passed away.... Was wondering if someone in Ballarat would be willing to keep an eye open for any death notices, tributes, obituaries, etc that appear in the Ballarat papers over the next week or so and would be willing to scan them and forward them on to me. :) Lyn in NSW
My guess is that it would be Brunswick North - an inner city suburb of Melbourne. I had one like that a while ago it was Aford - looked at all the maps then realized it was Abbotsford - also a suburb of Melbourne. Hope this helps Cheers Rosemary Meadows Brisbane -----Original Message----- From: Lyn [mailto:chedoona@tpg.com.au] Sent: Monday, 7 November 2005 6:23 PM To: AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Place Name G'day All I have a place name for a birth from Victoria. Hi, May I suggest listers with an interest in Buninyong and surrounding district, buy or borrow 'Three Times Blest - a History of Buninyong and District 1837-1901' written by Peter M. Griffiths and produced by Buninyong & District Historical Society in 1988. Their website is http://home.vicnet.net.au~buninhis/welcome.htm and this book, with other publications, is available for purchase at around $25.00 or $26.00 (140 page large paperback with maps and photos) plus $6.50 postage. I'm sure Anne Beggs Sunter, a member of the Society wouldn't object to my recommendation. BTW I have NO financial interest in this book. My main interest in Buninyong is George and Harriet COLEMAN (he's thought to have been a Hampshire Swing Rioter sent to Van Diemens Land) daughters Jane, Elizabeth Bertha, Emma and Mary who married into REDFERN, DONALD and WILSON families except Mary who apparently decided single parenthood was for her! Hello Chris. Cordwainer/snoemaker, same thing. From ''A list of occupations" ''CORDINER / CORDWAINER / CORVINER / CORVISOR - originally term used for one who worked with Cordovan (a special leather from Spain) but later term used for shoemaker'' Cheers, Bob in Melbourne ----- Original Message ----- From: "kfarrow" <kcfarrow@bigpond.net.au> To: <AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 06, 2005 8:42 PM Subject: OCCUPATIONS > Dear Listers, Does anyone clever know what a cordwainer did? "Does anyone clever know what a cordwainer did?" Hi Chris :) I vaguely remember there being a good site on occupations, but I can't for the life of me find it now! :( Too many reformats I think. Anyway, if you DO get an answer to this one with a link, would you please post to the list? I'm sure everyone else could use this one too! :D Take care, Rob.
Mary I am dumbfounded. Had not even considered gaol for this one. Was convinced she must have been in an Asylum . Now I have to somehow get that file and find if she ends up being mine. The original entry I was told about said 30 years of age. Is there any reference to that in your entry, or could there be an additional entry? I have never seen this Button Index so not sure about it. Thank you VERY much. Margaret Margaret
