They had two children born in England, Caroline Ann and George, and a third, Mary Jane, born on board during the voyage. In Australia they settled near Ballarat and eeked out a survival level pittance from the goldfields. Here they had another four children Selina, Thomas, Robert Leonard, and John; these latter four reportedly being born in Carn. Any information available relating to any of the persons listed would be gratefully received and details I have I will willingly share. Rob Knight Brisbane Hi Rob I have some family members of mine (John and Emily Cock nee Jacka and two children William 5 and Grace 3) also arriving on the Robert Sale, but the date I have is arriving in Melbourne on 5 October 1868. Would it be coincidental that the same ship arrived in the same month exactly 10 years apart, or have one of us got the year wrong?? BTW, the Robert Sale was a wooden barque of 741 tons, built in Burma in 1843 that carried 315 passengers. Cheers Maggie

G'day All Would someone kindly look up Albert Victor or Victor Albert with anyone of the above surname variations for me please. There are 3 names for his marriage on the NSW BDM site. Victor A.MEYERS, Victor A. MYERS and Victor A. MIERS. I believe he was born in Vic around 1887 under Albert Victor MYERS. How confusing, I do hope I am understood :-)) cheers Lyn
Thanks everyone for all the FAIR suggestions. Jo

>Hello friends on the Goldfield list,. I have an heirloom in a shoebox that I think should be left to the eldest daughter (or daughter-in-law if the eldest daughter have no issue), followed by her eldest daughter, ad infinitim This is my Christmas Story. If I don't tell it now, it will probably die with me, soooooooo: I had a brother-in-law who got a job assisting to install printing machinery. The new, state of the art press could, after calibration, print all colours in one pass. Previously only one colour could be printed at a pass, hence earlier cards had a reduced colour palette. He came home one day to say: Don't buy any Christmas cards this year. The machine that we are installing has a christmas card on it for callibration, and, as we line up the registration marks to get the colours printing correctly, the machine spits out about 500 copies. By the time we get to the last colour, the cards coming out will look OK. They won't have any printing inside, but instead of putting them all in the bin, I can bring some home for you. I waited as Christmas came closer, then my mother-in-law said: there's a shoe box of Christmas cards Ron left for you, you'd better take them home. Well, about 500 cards, full colour, lovely design perfectly printed. None of my friends will know that they all got the same card, will they. And they were great: only one drawback, everyone had printed on the front: MERRY CHRISTMAS TO MY HUSBAND !! And a Merry Christmas to you, too. regards, Ada Ackerly, Melbourne, Australia formerly Ackerly DocuSearch ------------------------ Yahoo! Rob wrote: | I don't have it on my list either, but I would think Fairfield? Or Fairlee? Not sure if that was an actual place, or whether it was just where the women's prison was. It was also where, until recently, the Queen Victoria Memorial Infectious Diseases Hospital was, right next door, just about, to the Women's Prison. Both are in the suburb of Fairfield which is adjacent to the suburb where I live. Both have been closed to their original purpose. I would think that far more deaths occurred in the former than the latter. (Personal experience helps guide this response.) Hi List, On the subject of place names, I was looking up some relatives in my family tree (on a distant limb) and was wondering what Rich is short for. As you will notice that the first 5 children were born in Amherst. The only Rich I know is Richmond. Any ideas? Sheelagh If you are looking for historical certificates in Vic you can order and immediately download them to your computer, (no more waiting weeks for the postie) http://www.dvc.vic.gov.au/bdm.htm just go to Registry of BMDs. As for inquest you need to go to Public Records office. http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/default.asp if you do not have the number I have the index but you may need to order before going there or see if there is someone who can pick it up for you. I don't know if there is anyone who can help me with this query. I am looking for the relationship of Dorothy Howell and Daniel Roy Tierney. He was born to Annie Cecilia Tierney in Ballarat (I think she is my Annie). There is no father. He put up his age in order to enlist and was killed on 25 April 1941 in Crete. He has Dorothy Howell as next of kin and I wondered why, unless she was an aunt as his mother died in 1929 but there were no Dorothys in his mother's family. TIA Janis in hot South Hedland W.A
