A 300 page manuscript volume, a Biographical Dictionary of Lauriston 1836-1940 and a display of local family history will be the focus of free-ranging discussion over a glass of wine, a cup of tea or a glass of Boggy Creek mineral springs water. Hi Donna, My gt gt gfather had a miners cottage well by the 1870s at Guildford (fairly close to Maldon) that I'm told he built himself. The story is that he did quite well finding gold. Sue

I am fairly new to this group but I also would like to pass on holiday greetings to all on this list. I have had marvellous help and friendliness on this list and look forward to reading the posts daily. I particularly wish to thank Carmel for the great job she has done with the Carngham Cemetery online. Cheers Jan Hunt Inverloch
My gg grandmother Maria LAMB was photographed outside her miners cottage in the 1880's in Maldon not long after her husband Thomas' death. Could anyone advise what criteria was involved to gain a cottage from like others who lived in tents. It could be simply they had saved money to do so, but I would be most appreciative of anyone's comments. Many thanks Donna W Perth

Dear Listers, Would anyone on the list have access to the Ararat Cemetery records, or be visiting the Cemetery in the near future. I am looking for any reference to William VERITY who died in Ararat in 1932. I am assuming he was buried in the Ararat Cemetery. I was hoping there may be a headstone on his grave with reference to other family members. Regards, Norm.
Hello listers, Is there anyone on the list researching the family name of VERITY in the Ararat area.? My interest is in William VERITY, born, Greendale?, 1865, and died in Ararat in 1932. I don`t know whether William married, but if there is anyone on the list with the relative Victorian CD, could they do a look-up for me please when they have the time during this obviously busy period of Chrismas and New Year. Regards, Norm.
The communities of Ballan, Gordon, Blackwood, Greendale, Mt Egerton, Myrniong and Navigators have all started their own community websites. All in their infancy and obviously focusing on their NOW information, I am aware that some are looking at their history, and looking for contributions. Gordon is at http://www.gordonvictoria.com/ and has links to the others. Regards, Andrew

Birthplace would be England (probably Middlesex) and she was still living in 1881. For any information on this previously unknown connection, I should be most grateful! Hi Rob This topic has been through the mill previously on this site. Try searching under miners rights, mining licences or gold mining leases to name a few. Sometimes it's a good idea to view the archives as topics tend to be raised again over time as you will notice when on the list for a number of years. However, from whom did a prospector obtain a license and was that prospector obliged to produce his license on demand? But was this license was just for prospecting or did it confer some ability to 'stake a claim if the prospector found gold? If not, can any one tell me what was involved in "staking a claim" when a prospector got 'lucky'? Rob Knight -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
