Dear Listers, I am currently doing research for a family member who is a descendant of Paul Carl CALLENBERG. I am not a member of Ancestry, but I found an entry relating to Paul CALLENBERG, listing the MITCHELL-STEPHENS, LIMEBURNER - SADLER names as being connected to Paul CALLENBERG. If there is anyone on the list who is researching the above names, or knows of anyone, could they please contact me. Norman A.
Good Morning List, I have just returned from another trip photographing headstones in the cemeteries listed below. As soon as I have named them all I will be happy to check for your names and email the photos. We also re-took some at Tarnagulla as the previous ones were blurred. cheers Dorothy Kingower Lexton Moonambel Navarre Waubra Wedderburn
I checked some of the indexes - no luck I'm afraid .. also - and this is perplexing - there doesn't seem to be any record in the indexes of Victor's birth in 1914 .. and in the indexes for the period 1914-1920 there seems to be only one person that may be Victor - and this Victor apparently was born in 1917 to a Jack JAMES and a Sarah Robbins. To help work out whether Victor was married or had children it would be good to know Victor's birthplace - Victoria is just too general - it may also help to know when and where Victor's parents were married .. maybe they were married overseas or in another state and that is where Victor went to get married???? Sarah's maiden name may also help.... good luck Robert ps - Is Victor still alive? - he may be able to supply the answers himself? There are three possible marriages in Victoria - he would have been fairly young in all of them. I have rejected several more which would have had him younger. It is unlikely that he married aged 12 for example. Note there are four entries, but two are obviously the same marriage - they have amended the bride's surname. You might find him interstate perhaps. Births cut out for privacy reasons well before this man married so I can't help you with children at all. You might be able to deuce them from deaths and marriages, but good luck! Others might be able to help you from electoral rolls, newspapers etc. I will now have a look at the deaths to see if I can pick him up there.... well, not precisely. Only one surnamed James has parents John and Sarah - in all cases there are other given names as well - but the age is quite a bit out. It is pasted in below the marriages. Hello David, There are two known cemeteries at Kingower. The current cemetery is on the left hand side of the road, coming from Moligal and there is another on the right side of the road in the bush just before the church. There were about 6 burials in this cemetery. Dave At 09:29 AM 24/09/2008, D. Weatherill wrote: >Good Morning; > >I have come across a reference to a pre-goldfields burial site in the >Kingower area. Good Morning; I have come across a reference to a pre-goldfields burial site in the Kingower area. It is not the old cemetery and the current cemetery. The site is believed to be near the current cemetery of 10 acres, beside the land of S.J.Ward and G.Ward. I have a map of the area noting this old site. It is just out of the township of Kingower at the time. Does any List member know of this site or have any information on it? Curious to ascertain if it existed and if there were any burials in it. Any help would be great. Regards, David ------------------------------------------- David Weatherill Bundoora Victoria Australia
Hi, It appears to me that you are fairly new at this research business - so I'll try to help ... first of all ... the names of relatives is always useful - the Births Deaths and Marriages (BDM) indexes may be consulted (by the online volunteesr - sometimes referred to as Some Kind Souls - or SKS) to work out where the people lived and died... some time frames are also very useful - when did these relatives die at Salt Water Creek? and very importantly - where is Salt Water Creek ?? There are numerous examples of different places named Salt Water Creek ... Although it is usually referred to as Salt water River - I'm guessing in this Salt Water Creek refers to the Maribyrnong Footscray region of Melbourne ... and people that lived there may be buried at many different locations? Coburg, Melbourne, Williamstown cemeteries come to mind ... If you have the name of an ancestor of interst then it is usually fairly easy to acquire the death certificate of the person and normally for certificates issued in Victoria the certificate will contain the date and location of the burial ... making research very easy ... If you don't wish to purchase a death certficicate then it is sometimes possible to obtain a death date by first checking the bdm indexes to obtain a year of death and then checking the probate indexes (available on microfiche at many good libraries) - with a little luck - the probate indexes may contain the deceaseds date of death - then it is possible to go to a major library - the State Library of Victoria for example - and check the microfilm of the old newspapers for the time of the death - and with a little more good fortune the deceased may be mentioned in obituaries and possibly even the location of the burial will be mentioned ... for example ... The remains of renowned ladies' man, errol Flynn, were finally put to rest at Coburg general cemetery on 19 September last. Many notable women from about the district attended the mournful procession, crying ansd sobbing. male companions seemed to be of a cheery disposition. So ... good luck ... Hi Folks; Another interesting issue that has arisen. It adds to an early posting that I made re Avoca Forest or Logan Cemetery. With my research into old Victorian cemeteries I have found information in an old cemetery file that there was a burial ground/cemetery at Kooreh just out of St Arnaud in Victoria. It would appear that the cemetery was never gazetted nor had Trustees. In a memo dated: 1 August, 1890 from the Inspectors's Office, Maryborough Police Station, to the Superintendent of Police, Sandhurst was the following: "I beg to bring under the notice of the Supt that there is an allotment of land adjoining the homestead of Mr Vanrenen's Avoca Forest Station, and near Logan Post Office, which was used as a burial ground during the rush. ...It contains about a dozen graves. No grave was opened in it for many years until 5 May last, when the child of a man named Thomas Cummings was buried there. The death of the child was duly registered and I am informed that other members of his family were buried there. I am told that the cemetery was not opened with the consent of the Governor-In-Council nor gazetted as such, in accordance with the Act. There are no Trustees nor Regulations for its Management, neither is a book kept for the registration of burials. As the cemetery in it present condition affords facilities for the secret burials of any person whose death may be due to violence, I would suggest that this report be forwarded to the proper authority, with the view of having burials in this ground prohibited, or, if allowed that it may be under proper management." Accordingly, in the Victorian Government Gazette on the 24th October, 1890 there was a notice of Burials In the Kooreh Cemetery to be Discontinued. This was approved by the Governor In Council on 16 October, 1890. I now believe that the Kooreh Cemetery was probably called the Avoca Forest Cemetery or Logan Cemetery. I have located death certificates noting burials at the Avoca Forest Cemetery from 1871 to 1878. Can any member advise me of the following in regards to this Kooreh burial ground: (a). Is the burial ground/cemetery still there today? (b). The names of any/all the dozen or so burials in it? (c). Any information about this burial ground; ie was it also known as the Avoca Forest Cemetery? It is interesting to note old cemeteries/burial grounds have a number of different names during their history or in various official documents. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi, the death certificate of Nannie CARTER aged 76 years, Bendigo district, 1903 registration:4671 may help with the search? and there is this death in 1912 in Bendigo of a William CARTER, possibly Alfred's father and Nannie' husband? aged 88 years reg.:13130. I wonder whether this death in 1904 is the missing person or an older brother: John CARTER, dies Bendigo in 1904 aged 49 years father William Vivian CARTER and mother Nannie CARTER - perhaps if we had the names of the siblings we could work it out?? Also - who was the Alfred John/Alfred Thomas CARTER born in Bendigo getting married to a Jessie Margaret SHAW in 1898 - she dies in about 1899 probably as a result of childbirth to son Alfred Roger CARTER born 1899 and dead in 1963...... and there is a chance that this Alfred CARTER remarries an Amelia Eliz LEY .... so there are a few possibilities..... following the children may assist ... what happened to emma Jane CARTER - did she marry a Mr. Ginivan? - where were they? and this CARTER family is Cornish ... nobody without Cornish ancestry names their boys Vivian .... :) good luck Robert Melbourne Mel wrote: > Would SKS please lookup a death for me of an Alfred CARTER b 1867 in > Sandhurst? > > His parents: William and Nanny Carter. >
Hi, Have just purchased the death certificate for 'my' Alfred John CARTER, son of Thomas CARTER & Hannah TALBOT, born in Wiltshire in 1852. He married Ellenor WILLIAMSON in 1896. They had the two children mentioned below. I haven't really being paying attention to this thread, but the above Alfred John CARTER is the son of Thomas CARTER and Hannah TALBOT - born in 1852 Alfred John TALBOT Alfred John TALBOT Information from 'Free BMD' Website Births Dec 1852 Quarter TALBOT Alfred John Hungerford 2c 206 Parents married in 1854 Information from 'Free BMD' Website Marriages June 1854 Quarter TALBOT Hannah Hungerford 2c 357 CARTER Thomas Hungerford 2c 357 Next child, Mary CARTER was born in S.A. late 1854. From the indexes: we learn that: David John CARTER was born in Kangaroo Flat, in 1895 reg.no.4458 father:Alfred John CARTER and mother Elleanor WILLIAMSON Olive Harriet Gerte CARTER was born in Kangaroo Flat, in 1897 reg.no.11956 father:Alfred John CARTER and mother Ellenor SHELTON Interestingly - the marriage for the couple is registered in 1896 reg.no. 7392 - Ellenor WILLIAMSON born Kanagroo Flat to an Alfred CARTER born England ... Now I wonder - was he born in England or Bendigo??? Mels original post strongly suggests that the information in the post is from indexes only? Could it be that there were two Alfred CARTERS? hmmm ... I would really like to know whether Mel has seen the marriage certificate to clear up the origins of the Alf Carter that married Eleanor Williamson ... anyhow: the indexes show the birth in Sandhurst in 1857 of an Eleanor Shelton, father James and mother Bridgett Barnett. and 20 years later, in 1877, the marriage of Sandhurst born Ellenor Shelton to a Hobart born William WILLIAMSON.. it seems that Elenor and William had a couple of kids at Kangaroo Flat in 1879 and 1884. and the indexes confirm the death of 56 year old Eleanor CARTER in 1913, at Kangaroo Flat, father James Shelton and mother Bridget BARNETT, The indexs show the death of a 62 year old Alfred John CARTER in 1915 - Kangaroo Flat, reg.no. 1799 father: Thomas CARTER and mother Annah TABBOURT - is this our man?? I wonder 62 years of age? - 1915 - born in 1853? hmmm ... Dear Mel, The only Eleanor death I could see is the Eleanor, died 1913 aged 56 at Kangaroo Flat, parents James SHELTON and Bridget BARNETT. Was she married before? There was an Alfred Carter died 1905 at Kilmore aged 37 which fits with an 1867 birth. His parents are listed as unknown. The Reg. Number: 2153 should you want to get the certificate to see if a wife is listed. The records also have an Alfred Carter died at Kyneton Hospital 1896 aged 110! Pretty impressive if true.
